“Overpriced... better value elsewhere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2011

The place looks great, has a great location, but it's way over priced for what you get. The bungalow was nice enough, but a) was so dark inside, that I needed a flashlight to find my stuff as the 2 super dim lights revealed nothing. b) at almost 90 USD - it should come with a bottle of water perhaps? Seriously for 3900 RS... it should come with something.

the manager, while nice enough was hardly interested in saying anything to us... restaurant service was SO slow (8th trip to India so I'm used to it, but come on... 45 minutes for a coffee?). The food was blah... the 'baguette with cheese and ham' was two burn pieces of toast that took 50 minutes to conjure up. The included breakfast had no juice, fruit, ... just 2 pieces of burnt toast, one egg's worth of scramble and a coffe.

Anyway, we checked out after one night, found a place on the cliff for 2000 - AC, Fridge, TV, hotwater, balcony, seaview, breakfast... superior value can be found elsewhere.

“Solid beach resort”

Nice resort, and if you're looking for a great beach you'll not find a hotel closer. It's a bit touristy and apparently some people come here specifically to hassle girls - that happened, so we headed out early. In all, not somewhere I'd recommend considering how many places there are in Kerala that offer better value and less in-your-face tourist development.

“Nice Location, Decent Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

We stayed for a week here. The view is nice and it's much cleaner and less crowded than the main Varkala beach. There is also local fishermen nearby who are quite friendly (They may however ask you to help them pull the nets in, which is a good chance for your daily exercise)

The cottage we stayed in was nice but if I had booked in advance I would have requested the front cottage as it has better views. There was no tv and for me this was a welcome change from the other places we had been staying in.

The service was great and the food was tasty. Not that we ate here much as there are so many options further along the beach and up to the cliff. One thing that hadnt been added at the time we were there was an in house laundry service. The manager was honest enough to let me know this and hopefully they will change this in the future.

“Great location- nice basic accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

Odayam Beach, Varkala beats Varkala Beach hands down. The location of this Resort is superb. It is secure, clean and comfortable enough and with good service.

“Goa Can Take A Walk!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

We opted for this resort in Varkala based only on the various good reviews on the web. I am glad that the choice was indeed a right one. The Resort is situated in Village Odayam, a bit away from the main Papanasham Beach, but not too far that one cannot easily walk to it. It is for those who prefer quite, serene and lazy stay watching the sea and enjoying good food.
From what I could see, no other resorts in the area are located so close to the sea. Not only that, it is in a quiet fishing village. So in the morning one can watch the fishermen pushing their boats and catamarans into the sea and return with their catch by 10 AM.
Rooms are clean and well maintained, if a little small. All huts have a nice view of the sea.
Staff are very helpful and friendly. Food is excellent if you do not expect typical Kerala dishes. The Nepali cook produces excellent seafood, awesome crab, great calamari, fingerlicking good prawns and possibly chicken too. But in Varkala who wants chicken? Cheap too!
The place does not have a bar. So if you want to drink, buy your own and drink in your rooms. Their mocktails are not bad though.
This is one place I plan to revisit, more than once!
