Just returned from Kerala. The Uday Samudra Beach Hotel lived up to the majority of posts about this hotel. Would not recommend as they seem to have no idea of Customer service. Continually putting people into rooms that are unfit for a 4* hotel amazes me. Rooms 818 and 819 are probably the worst of the Exotica Atrium and are affected by damp and mosquitoes. Being told before we even saw the rooms that we could move the following morning suggests that the Management know that there is a problem. It needs to be sorted out as there could be a potential health hazard here.
All 6 of our party were affected by diarrhoea and severe vomiting. This can obviously come from anywhere, but the appearance of a dead cockroach in one of the dishes at the buffet restaurant suggests hygiene is not a top priority. The Management are trying to cover things up by offering meals at the A la Carte restaurant and beachfront dinners, but the fact remains that people are being messed about and are becoming ill.
The general staff at the Hotel are always helpful and charming, but their sense of urgency with requests does seem very slow!
The 'beach' at the rear of the hotel is a bit of an overstatement. It is dirty and not suitable for swimming or sunbathing, despite there being sunbeds available for hire. The area surrounding the hotel is very depressed and is obviously suffering from a reduction in holiday trade.
All in all, a depressing experience.

5 Star facilities, nice hospitality, and great place to visit and stay.

Stayed here for three nights, great hotel with good large clean rooms, great service and one of the best breakfast buffey's I've had.

I recently returned from a tour of Kerala which included staying for a week at the Uday Samudra Beach Hotel. The rooms were very good and all the staff exceptionally friendly. The evening buffett was only average and on the last two nights we ate out which we enjoyed much better. On many chicken dishes is mainly consisted of bone and feel this should be looked at. The one thing to be aware of the beach is a working beach which does have sunbeds but the beach is not part of the hotel. The sea during the time we were there was not safe to swim in and I only had a paddle and could feel the strong pull. We were told that an individual on the next beach was actually killed during out stay due to the strong waves.
The pool area is very good but could do with more sunbeds and one of the smaller pools could not be used. We found out the people outside the hotel could pay to have a sunbed by the pool which obviously restricted the amount available for its guests. During our stay there was a wedding reception in the evening which restricted areas where hotel guests were allowed to go.
I think the hotel needs to put its guest first if that is there main business and particularly keep the pool area for its own guest.
During our stay all the staff were absolutley great and really helpful and the main pool was of a really good size.
