“Quite in order.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Formerly known as the Geeth Hotel it is now named The Capital. The management has taken care to refurbish and have made sufficient ground in making things new.Good clean rooms, a nice reception, restaurant, new beds, toilet fittings, lights, interior and exterior decor are quite new. Staff are knowledgeable and fluent in English. The front office is efficient and travel plans are well taken care of.Food is fine and the Kerala cuisine was tasty.Air conditioners are wall mounted and are not noisy. Rooms are provided with a ward robe and an ample sized mirror.Toilets are clean.Room service and house keeping are at our beck and call making your stay as comfortable as it could be.Hotel is right in the middle of town and the Temple,Palace, zoo, Museum,Railway or Bus stations and the Airport are hardly 20 minutes away.Just close to the main road you can access the market, road side shops and Malls by walk and travel to the place of your choice by the Auto rickshaw if you do not have your own transport. It is just a 10 minute walk to the Catholic or MarThoma Orthodox Syrian Church, Mosque and about a 15 minute walk to the CSI church. Nestled adjacent to the main MG road the Hotel is quite and peaceful. However the Hotel needs a brighter exterior coat of paint and some architect designed illumination to make itself feel proud of the other goodies it possesses.

This hotel is the old hotel called GEETH which used to be one of the premier hotels in Trivandrum many years ago,but now its changed fully i liked the location very much the lobby is furnished but the reception staff where use less when i took the room i was promised i would get WIFI in room and when we checked it did show any wifi when i checked with reception people they said come to lobby and use net later on i asked another staff i reception he politely asked which floor do u stay in i said 2nd he replayed ohh sir only on 3rd floor we get net tht was the most stupidest excuse i have ever heard i don't think the price is worth it ,as for toilet is clean just kept basic thing 1. soap,1.pack of shampoo 3. 1piece of parachute oil.Morning i go for a walk but this is the 1st experience i had when i pressed the lift button it did not respond waited for about 10 min then took the fire exit way and took the service lift which landed me directly to the kitchen where luckily i found a watchman i asked him the way out he showed me the way after my walk i asked the porter why was the lift not working in the morning he said power shortage what kind of people . Restaurant was fine but the reception people promised me tht the restaurant will be open at 7 am but i had to wait for 10 to 15 min .Food in the hotel is not so great but ok

In the current condition, it is not worth the money. Beware of this hotel!!!!

“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

I stayed at this hotel for one night. I do not recommend it at all. This is an old hotel in dilapidated condition. The paint on the wall is peeling and I do not know when the drapes were cleaned the last time. They offer a really ancient 15 inch TV in the room. The bathroom is awful.

There are two positives:
(a) The location is excellent; it is right smack in the middle of the city.
(b) The lobby and restaurant on the ground floor is fully renovated and nice. The food in the restaurant is very good.

Ps
This hotel is the old hotel called GEETH which used to be one of the premier hotels in Trivandrum many years ago. I am told that the property was acquired and renamed not too long ago. If they fix it, then all is well.

In the current condition, it is not worth the money. Stay Away!

“Overpriced, not great budget option”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

Not sure if it'd be a better experience for those not staying in the cheap rooms here, but we stayed in one of the budget rooms, and didn't enjoy.

Not much seemed to work, and when we asked for help, we were met with a confused smile and nothing really was done. As 2 guests, we were given one towel, needed phone calls and personal visits to get a second one ... which then disappeared again during cleaning. Room was cramped , stuffy and damp, wireless didn't work as promised. We arranged a car for trip to Kanyakumari through the hotel, but this didn't arrive til an hour late, without apology.

Nightstaff were helpful, but it was as if the staff didn't talk to each other, or just pretended to understand what we were asking for.

Restaurant food was OK, but much of the menu wasn't available.

In short, not as advertised and even though we were in the budget room, we'd expect a lot better and you can get a lot lot better in the nearby town of Varkala.
