“Lovely, secluded hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My husband and I stayed here over New Year and we had a lovely time. It really is in the middle of nowhere! Our room on the first floor was huge with a really high bed that you needed a step to get into - we loved it! There was a storm on our first night and the electricity cut out so our evening was cut short at 9pm but it did come back later on that night and we were given candles for our room. The storm winds were so cooling that we didn't need the fan on that night any way. Next morning we were given breakfast on the balcony of our rooms as the outdoor dining area was still a little wet. However, by the evening everything was dry and we could eat out on the patio.

The house has bikes you can use to explore the neighbouring villages - and I would really recommend this. You get an idea of how beautiful the countryside is and the hotel's seclusion. The food was delicious - especially the seafood platter and a scrumptious vegetarian lunch. I had incredibly bad morning sickness during my whole time I was in India but the atmosphere was so relaxing here that it almost cured it!

Room Tip: Ask for the large room on the first floor - a real treat.

“Exceptional service from caring and genuine staff”

We stayed 4 nights here - 2 more than we planned because I broke my ankle during my stay. The measure of a good hotel is how it manages a problem. Thank goodness I was staying here when my accident happened. The manager and his staff could not have been more caring and helpful, dealing with the hospitals, looking after me while I arranged my early return to UK. Delightful, genuine and outstanding service in this small and beautifully located home from home.

“Truly serene”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This has been a welcome pause in our travels, with not much to do other than relax, read and go for an elephant ride or take a dip in the pool. The rooms are immense! On the second night, the chef offered to make us food off the menu. It was delicious ( mind you, so was the food listed on the menu). The ginger punch is fabulous and so are the banana pancakes for breakfast. The service is wonderful. Highly recommended.

“Bliss”

If you're looking for party action, bright lights, and all mod cons then this place isn't for you. However, Serenity is one of the most wonderful places we have ever stayed. Yes, it's not quite as fancy as some of the sister hotels in the Malabar House chain, but it easily equals them because of its very special ambience, the peace and quiet, the fabulous staff, and the incredible food. Here you are in a very beautiful old plantation house, right in the middle of a rubber plantation. If you can, stay in the room with its own verandah, overlooking the stunning pool. It's a bit smaller than some other rooms, but the verandah and daybed make it worthwhile. We were able to go on a plantation walk, guided by the wonderful manager, and we spent a bit of time with the elephant (although we didn't ride her, we were able to meet her, stroke her and take photos). This has to be among the most relaxing few days we've ever had on holiday. There's not much to do, except read, listen to the birds, watch the jungle, eat the amazing food, take a dip in the pool . . . what could be better?

Room Tip: The ground floor room with verandah overlooking the pool was great.

“Quirky but very enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Really enjoyed this place it was small enough that the staff got to know you very quickly. The food, rooms and general setting was excellent. The chef visits at the end of the evening meal.
The elephant is a nice ride for the ageing portly european figure but youngsters could ride two up easily. I would go there again.
