“A very friendly place in a beautiful setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

We stayed for two nights, but having arrived in the dark, and then gone on an jeep safari before it got light, we didn't see the beautiful setting until the end of our first day. We could just have stayed on the site, watched and listened to the birds, wandered around the cardamom plantation and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food and accommodation were good and we met some great people. When we visited there was a young American volunteer organising some way-marked walks around the plantation. She took us on one of these and we would highly recommend them.

“Peace, clean air and great food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2011

Before arriving to this hotel we spent two weeks at Kovalam beach, which was a hot place. Therefore we were bit shocked when we arrived to Thekkady as in the mountain area the temperatures were lower. The rooms felt pretty cold during the night time but they had good blankets so we did sleep very well. Next time we'll bring bit more warmer clothes.

The location of the hotel was excellent as it is well outside of the nearby town in the mountain area, which means that you have peace and fresh air. We were very happy that we did not stay in the town itself as that was quite crowded and air quality not so good.

Food that was offered on site was perfect even though it was bit expensive by Indian standards.

On negative side they offer you drinking water in one liter plastic bottles. We would expect that a place claiming to be "green" would come up with bit more sustainable solution for providing the drinking water.

The hotel was also lacking premises for drivers. This meant that our driver had to drive to downtown to spend his nights and to get something to eat, which was not optimal solution.

As said the hotel is maybe 10-15 minutes away from closest town but having a car is not mandatory as other guests seemed to manage well by using rickshaws to get around.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

“Overpriced, poorly run & uncared for, despite a fantastic setting”

We booked a 3 night stay here from the UK,.in February 2011. The description on the internet sounded idyllic, & there were good reviews (but all were written in 2009) but the reality was quite different.

Although this hotel has a fantastic tropical setting, surrounded by trees visited by an amazing range of birds, the bungalow style rooms, which are very attractive on the outside are are gloomy, basic & slightly grubby.

The décor of the rooms left us feeling a bit depressed; little thought had been given to brightening up the rooms or to what guests need. The dining area looked like a canteen and had dirty tablecloths.

We had to ask for another room after discovering the wardrobe had dirty & damp shelving, making it unusable We moved rooms (huge choice as there were NO other guests) , but found that there was a slight problem of damp in all of the rooms, especially the bathrooms.

No other guests were at the hotel during our stay. Another couple arrived, took one look at the place and promptly left. How we wished we had done the same. We left after 2 nights, moving a mile or so to another hotel which was half the price and so much better. We felt like we had been let out of prison.

The people running the hotel seemed uninterested and unsuitable to be in the hospitality business, they simply did not have a clue. It felt like a badly run youth hostel and a total rip off, charging the same price as much better quality hotels.

My advice is give this place a miss

“Great place”

We arrived at Cardamom Club after a long winding ride in an Ambassador car from Munnar, we were greeted by a couteous staff and the big suprise came when while signing in they told us that we had been upgraded to a cottage suite.
The suite was nice, with a living room, hallway, bedroom with comfortable beds and lots of cushions. The bathroom had nice big bath tub with jaccuzi jets. We did not eat there since we keep kosher. We really enjoyed our stay and we were really sorry that it was only one night.

“A Beautiful Serene Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Cardamom Club early January and thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay - although we would have stayed longer if time permitted! Our mountain view room had everything we needed - plus beautiful views of the plantation from the balcony/deck area. The shower was fabulous, just what we needed after spending the two previous nights on a houseboat. The staff here are so accommodating and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.

Take the opportunity to have a guided walk around the Cardamom Plantation as it was very interesting and had great views to the town and back down to the Cardamom Club itself - the staff will be very keen to show you on their little tour as they are very proud of their hotel and grounds.

Although it is a little away from nearby towns, it is very cheap to get around via tuk tuk locally or if you have a driver/guide. We went into Kumily for a meal at the Ambadi which was lovely and very reasonably priced. The guys at Cardamom Club also provided us with some lovely meals and always offered you more! We particularly liked the breakfast shakes.

If you are looking for a place that is peaceful and very much amongst nature, this is the place, we would certainly recommend and go back here if we were ever in Kerala again, its just so refreshingly different!

Many Thanks guys - Jen & Ade UK
