We are travelling for 3 months across India doing charity work so we watch our budget in terms of accommodation and thought we would splurge a bit when we got to Kerala. (I know its not actually splurging considering the price but whilst travelling we were at mainly guest houses to keep costs down rather than hotels) We were drawn in by some of the previous reviews on here and with their big advert on the website about vegan food (my wife being vegan was loving this). We arrived at the hotel at night and from the outside we thought great, looks good and we were all staring as it had been a long day, and being vegetarian & vegan and this place boasting to be pure veg and veganism) on their site we were looking forward to settling in and grabbing some food.
Check in was easy and quick, as we left the ground floor to the rooms the place started looking very drab and dark, and actually depressing. We were in a double room which was very spacious and my mum was in a single room...the corridors were very dark and dingy and it was so bad that everytime we came back up to the rooms one of us would walk my mum to her room (sounds a bit dramatic I know but I just didnt like it) also bear in mind that we work in the deprived slums so its not like we were out of our comfort zone.
We got to the restaurant and after asking about vegan options as per their website it seemed no one had a clue and I dont even think they knew what the word meant. The food was not great, just basic food, nothing special to write about (put it this way on the last few days I didnt even eat breakfast at the hotel that was free!!). I know I am coming across very negative but this place was a real disappointment. It may be that we were on a very bad floor and the others are a lot nicer??
Good points:
Rooms are spacious if you opt for the double (single is tiny)
The location is very good to get around town
The check out is on 24 hour basis (so you check in at 9pm you check out at 9pm or before).
The staff are very helpful and polite.
Bad points:
Poor quality decor once you leave reception
Food not all its cracked up to be, its actually bad considering its billed as one of the best veggie restaurants in Cochin, which it really is not. (suggestion below)
Vegan? what is vegan??
Noisy as its across the temple which tends to let off very loud fire crackers from 4am!!!

If you want excellent vegetarian food then there is a very clean place just around the corner that was amazing. We left the Bharat hotel after 2 days and moved to Fort Cochin and used to travel the 15km to come back to this restaurant it was that good!!! It is also within a hotel but we are not sure what the rooms are like (they were around 800rupees for a double room). The hotel is called Dwarka and the restaurant is on the first floor. It is on MG road (its a few doors down from a big Levis store on the corner)
