“Dream come true!”

Travelling on my own acrosss Kerala with more destinations to visit than my last trip to India, I decided to depend on a little help from the locals. This is where Jenny & Jose and her team came in. Jenny and Jose are very welcoming hosts - but I must say I do not know how Jenny juggles all the balls: professor at local university, runs a travel company, has a family and lovely home and then plays host and cooks lovely food for all her guests!

I was made to feel very welcome on my 2 night stay. Other English travellers and an American father and daughter sat around the dinner table, all happily chatting away, eating delicious food in bountiful amounts. Great homemade food at all times of the day.

I took the services of some of le Royale's team: Sajeev was my guide for a day whilst I visited Cochin. Don't normally take guides but I was very pleased with Sajeev, felt very informed with his local tourist knowledge and safe in his care. Very friendly manner.

Jenny set up my onward travel through Kerala, supplied me with a phone that I could use and that she kept in touch with me on. The travel services are not cheap but the quality of the staff Jenny has are extremely good. I was very fortunate to have Dileep driving me around Kerala for 8 days:Varkala, Periyar, Madurai, Munnar. What a gentleman - I could not have wished for a nicer person to make me feel secure on my travels, show me places that you wouldn't see on a group guided tour, actually was a guide really - pointing out the sites and points of interest. He even cut short a 24 hour trip we agreed he would make to be at his child's 1st birthday because he was worried about me being left on my own - how caring was that! Felt completely comfortable travelling with Dileep, a great sense of humour, great chat and very safe driving. Thank you.

And thank you to Jenny, Jose and Sajeev.

“Lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2012

We primarily used Jenny's services as a travel agent to arrange a short tour of Kerala, and we're not disappointed. We stayed at Le Royale the first night, moved on to Periyar for trekking, stayed the night on a houseboat in Allepy and returned to Kochi for a day. Everyone that we dealt with was absolutely wonderful, in particular our driver and guide. We will definitely return. A bit of advice, tour prices fluctuated between our booking and arrival- make sure to double check all fees etc so that there are no surprises.

“What a lucky find!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2012

If you’re lucky enough to stay at Le Royale with Jenny and Jos, do take full advantage of everything they have to offer. Not only do they have a magnificent homestay with four delightful large double rooms and wonderful food, but in addition they operate a small travel agency (Fourens Travel) so they can do all your bookings for you. They also have their own cars with friendly English-speaking drivers who will take you wherever you want to go, and they even have their own tuk-tuk for short trips into Ernakulum and Cochin.

So for my wife and me, it turned out to be the ideal place to start our six-week tour of Southern India. We spent the first four very happy days in Le Royale, planning our itinerary in between trips to Cochin and nearby sights. Before leaving Cochin, Jenny booked our first two stops in Munnar and Dindigul, and after that we phoned her one or two days in advance of moving on so that she could book our following stop. Jenny rented us a mobile phone, which turned out to be an invaluable asset, especially to keep in contact with her and with our driver.

I must say that, before we arrived in Cochin, we were a bit apprehensive about being in a car with the same driver for nearly six weeks, but from the first moment we met Dileep, when he came to pick us up at the airport, we knew it was going to work out really well. We became great friends with Dileep and felt rather bad about taking him away from his young family for such a long time. He is an excellent driver, confident and positive, which is what you have to be in India if you want to get from A to B safely and in a reasonable time. He’s also very knowledgeable about India, its people, its customs, its flora and fauna etc, which added immensely to our holiday. He is as well a very nice person.

Staying at Le Royale was certainly the highlight of our trip to India (our fourth) and it’s the one place there that we talk most about to our friends. Thank you, Jenny and all the team at Le Royale for our happy memories.

“Highlight of our month in India”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2012

We spent a month travelling from Dehli to Kochi to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. However, as impressive as the many tourist sights were, the fondest memory of our holiday is the hospitality than Jenny and Jose showed us and the few days that we spent with them; gorgeous rooms, sensational food, great company and excellent arrangements for other nights in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. We hope to one day return to Le Royale.

“An Indian experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2012

This is a chance to share a home with an Indian family, and as all the reviews have said, Jenny and Jose will make you very welcome, the rooms are large, well appointed and spotlessly clean and the food is wonderful. Jenny is also very helpful in fixing up things for the rest of your trip; she provided us with an excellent driver, and this added a lot to the rest of our time in Kerela The only thing I would point out is that the position is not a shown correctly on the map - the house is actually in Ernakulam - if you search Google maps for "Lourdes hospital", you can see the area. To get to Fort Kochi, you will need to get a tuk-tuk and then a ferry (it will take about 40 minutes) but this is quite straightforward and will only cost about £1. If you want to get away from the rather "backpacker" vibe of Fort Kochi and see a more typically Indian part of town, I would thoroughly recommend this homestay.
