“Enjoyed My Long Stay at Vintage”

I was in India for 6 months, and Vintage Inn was one of my two or three favorite accommodations among many. I recall a travel book saying the location isn't convenient, but I found it to be perfect. If I wanted to use wifi or get something western like a candy bar - I'd go up to Princess Street. Otherwise the local scene to the south and east was much more interesting to me. From Vintage you could get into a lot of different neighborhoods quickly. Also, just down the street is the Kerala Kathakali Centre, where I saw the best live traditional music during my time in India. A farther walk was the excellent and affordable Sri Krishna Cafe, an institution for traditional Keralan food.

As others have commented, the rooms are very clean and secure. The owners are helpful and all the staff is very friendly. I met some great guests here as well while having breakfast on the upper terrace. The comfort of this Inn encouraged me to stay much longer in Cochin than I expected, and without question I would stay here again if I'm back in town.

Room Tip: I stayed in two rooms, and one had glow in the dark stars!!!!

“Excellent!”

We stayed for a week in Kochi at Vintage Inn. At first, inspite of the excellent room, we thought it might be just a little removed from the main area around Princess Street. But after looking around the Guest Houses and Hotels closer, we soon came to realise Vintage Inn was an excellent place. We had the best room we have stayed in in India this whole trip - it was truly pleasant. A huge balcony, windows on two sides, separate room for dressing and storage, superb hot-water shower, clothes lines, etc. And it turned out to be a good location - only a short walk to Princess Street across the park, close to the Kathakali and the delicious Tibetan restaurant.

In previous years (2004 and 1994) rates were cheaper around Princess Street, but something has changed, and aside from the basic hotels like the Elite (where we had stayed in 2007) all the rest have gone in for these prissy Boutique joints that charge like rhinos. In 1994 we stayed at the then wonderful PWD guest house, but this time they seemed totally disinterested in anyone staying there. Plus they have removed the old garden from the sea side (Indian guests complained about it being a King Cobra scene, we were told by a tuktuk driver).

The two brothers who run the Vintage Inn were extremely helpful with all kinds of questions and services. The area was quiet and sleeping was good. I noticed that most of their rooms are very generous in size, though not all had balcony. We had a Non-AC room, which for January was perfect. AC rooms tend to be closed off, and you could be anywhere in the world.

The Vintage Inn has very reasonable rates, clean, a pleasant atmosphere and great rooms: I can recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Upstairs Non-AC with balcony is great.
