I've been in Shambhala 5 years ago, the hotel was basic, but clean. But I still remember how peaceful tha hotel was and also I remember the nice party organized by the owner.

I stayed in the ShambhaLa for five days. First, the biggest negative: it is not near the town center (walk is about 25 minutes). But this fact leads to a positive: this hotel is quiet and peaceful as well as beautiful, so being there feels like a pleasant retreat. It really helps to calm the nerves if you have been in the lowland cities of India. The food is really quite good. Meals were Rs. 350 each. The rooms are very cozy if lacking in luxury. The place is definitely "worn" and the amenities such as tv are not the best. Don't believe the review about the hot water - there is always hot water although you may need to let the faucet run for some time before it appears. Transportation to and from the airport is provided. The staff were all very friendly and nice. I booked this hotel through my Indian travel partner, Leisure Tours of Central India. I would recommend this outfit because they are very helpful and professional.

This hotel is a bit away (2 km) from the city market, which is quite inconvenient in Leh.

The staff is courteous and polite but the manager is shady and will only offer options of sight-seeing which entail higher costs. There is hot water only for a short duration in the day, during morning and evening. The food was very nice and authentic.

The rooms are extremely basic. There is not much else other than 2 twin beds joined together.

Since this was a last minute travel decision, I started calling up all the Leh hotels in descending order of rating on tripadvisor and finally landed availability here. Moved out of here after 1 day itself, and was glad I didn't stay longer. The manager made some fuss about us checking out late and finally had to relent.

Only advantage was meeting some interesting travelers whom we interacted with.

A plush hotel serenely located in the heart of the calm city of Leh with breathtaking view of the Himalayan ranges! We stayed in the pent house and would recommend it for anybody travelling to leh in the near future!
