“Near yet far from the madding crowd!”

After reading mixed reviews on TA, we had gone with a little apprehension, which soon melted away into appreciation only. The road leading to the palace itself is smooth and makes for a good drive. The check-in was hassle-free and on time.

The room -1 (Faiz Mahal): It was a huge one with 2 double beds, few sofas and even a settee laid out comfortably. This also has an attached spacious verandah overlooking an ordinary garden. The dressing and bathroom are separate, each quite spacious as one would generally find in such old buildings. The bathtub was stained and rusted. Rest everything was neat and clean. The room is adorned with old chandeliers, adding to the old world charm. They provide you with a heater, which was just enough. There is no hair-dryer or a pair of slippers. And they couldn't provide either. But the best part is there is no TV in the room! So you can actually practice the fine art of talking to each other and bond. There is a TV lounge, if required.

The Ambience: It's freshly green and well maintained. Though like the previous poster we too felt they could plant more flowers. The lunch (pool-side) and breakfast (up-stairs) areas are just too pleasing for the eye. The stark white of the building against the blue pool and sky made for some good pictures. The halls are full of old pictures of Pataudi himself and his beautiful wife, besides others.

The food: This was a pleasant surprise. We reached in time for the buffet lunch (They have no a la carte at all). The spread was simple and very delicious. I especially loved their mutton curry and baigan ka bharta. The breakfast and tea is included in the price. The lunch is about Rs 700 a head. The breakfast was simple yet adequate. 3 varieties of cereals, puri-sabzi, breads, cheese and scrambled eggs. Freshly squeezed orange juice, milk, tea, coffee, etc. though the time for breakfast is from 8:00 to 9:30am, which for a january morning is too early! For tea they had an assortment of biscuits, very delicious tiny banana muffins and crisp, hot pakoras.

Activities: They have a badminton court, carom board, a TT table and a swimming pool. There are 2 cycles too if you like. We spent the evening playing badminton. One could easily take a break from the city for even a night and would certainly go back energized.

There is an Emu farm just short of the palace, bang on the road. Do stop to admire and take pictures.

Room Tip: The 'Julia Robert' ones seemed more modern and cleaner. In the main building choose the upst...

“Nice weekend getaway from Gurgaon/Delhi”

Pataudi Palace is about 60 km from DLF city and really nice to just go for a short drive, chill, eat good food and take in some history. The place is really well kept and food is good but not so awesome as in other neemrana properties. Evening tea with banana brownies and homemade cookies was really the high point, as one was surrounded with peacocks, begging for crumbs.
The room are huge and since it was really cold, we had to ask for extra heaters and blankets to keep us warm. The staff is very helpful and service good. The grounds are well kept, but one missed winter flowers in the garden. Nothing except roses. Felt sombre at the fresh grave of Nawab Pataudi . The family pictures in the lobby tell quite a tale of the gone years.
The adjacent outhouse is named after julia roberts who stayed here during the shooting of Eat Pray Love. Quite a nice little cottage for a group.
All in all, nice for one time visit/family outing.

Room Tip: I think the rooms in the main palace are really spacious. Go for the rooms one first floor if you ca...

“Expected this place to be much better!!”

So much more can be done at this place. Almost everything needs improvement. The rooms, common areas like tv room, corridors, etc can do with more hygiene, clean carpets, better flooring. All this is expected when the room rate charged is same as any other 5 star. There is no choice in food. Anything other than India cuisine was a disaster. Cold omelets were served for breakfast. We had asked for the Julia Robert's cottage which we were told was booked. There was no one staying in there!! So we ended up paying more for the rooms that we didn't want. We were asked to vacate the TV room at 11.30pm because the staff sleeps there! Lot of re hauling required if they need to charge the same rate. Expected Neemrana to manage it much better.

“ill maintained, management taking customer for granted”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Stayed at the Pataudi palace for one night as part of an off-site. Its about a 45 min drive from Gurgaon. The property itself is situated amongst large open fields. The staff are courteous and help out if asked. However, the building itself is in need of renovation at a few places. I don't know about the other room but the one in which I stayed "Saif Mahal" can certainly do with some better appointing. The food was average at best. The breakfast experience was disastrous. I think that might have been due to there being not too many people staying at the haveli. The eggs were cold, as were the rest of the "Hot" dishes. The tea however, was quite good.

The worst part of the experience was that while booking we were told that the Julia Roberts cottage, that has the cheaper rooms, was a 10-15 min walk away from the main building. This is complete LIES!!!! The cottage is within the premises and all of 20 steps from the main building. I think its completely unfair, cheap and down right unethical, that in order to fill occupancy in the more expensive rooms such lies are being told to prospective guests. If you do wish to visit the property please don't fall for this sneaky trick.

Overall, while the staff is good, I don't think it is worth spending INR 7000 - INR 8000 a night.

Pataudi Palace is a good getaway for all Delhites , just about an hour and a half from the heart of Delhi.

The palace is open with big lawns all around it but very ill-maintained ,,

The staff, however, is too courteous to be true. They take care of just about anything you may need and make every meal a special treat. Food quality & selection is also great.

If you're happy to live with peacocks around you, Pataudi Palace is the place to be !

Room Tip: We stayed at Faiz Mahal - ideal for our family of 4 - has 2 double beds + a dresser + bath. Very s...
