I wasn't expecting much from this hotel. Having had a few forgettable experiences at other Taj Hotels and this being a Gateway (the lowest brand in the Taj portfolio). However, this hotel pleasanatly surprised me. From the outside the building looks like a drab and unkempt structure. But drive in and the grounds are well maintained with a large amount of greenery making for a welcome entry.
However, enter the main hotel building and you would not believe that something so ugly from the outside could be so beautiful inside. The lobby is large and open and the staff receives you with a welcome not seen in recent times at most hotels. I stayed in a Executive Room with a river view. Normally I am not particular on views believing that after the first few minutes, the view becomes redundant. This room on the 7th floor facing the riverfront really epitomises a beautiful view. My wife would stare out the huge windows for hours amazed at the view on offer. The room was large, well equipped, recently renovated and with a well designed bathroom with all necessary needs. The bathroom had a glass window facing the bed as is found in many other hotels. However, this window came with an electrically operated curtain making it very easy and joyous to use.
The highlight of this hotel are their staff. Their willingness to serve takes you back to olden times when a stay in a premium hotel was a royal experience. Service is prompt and correct. Whenever we asked to clear the trays from the room service, it was done within 3 - 4 minutes. This was a big surprise as normally all hotels take a few hours and multiple calls for the same. The food was tasty and fresh and the buffet was well laid out with an extensive variety. Any small requests were also fulfilled promptly.
This hotel is a must stay if only for the hospitality, which is seriously lacking in most hotels nowadays.
