I had visited the place during the peak 25-28th Dec season when Goa and specially Candolim gets packaged to the brim due to the Sun Burn music festival. I was very reluctant to book myself into Candolim until I was recommended this place by a friend who visits Goa very frequently. I must say I am very happy for the decision I took.
The hotel is located right in the middle of Candolim where all the buzz is. Everything is a stone throw distance away. This is ideal place to get the real feel of north Goa. It is very accessible from main areas of Panjim, Calangute and Baga.
I was talking to one of the employees and realised that the management suprisingly does not advertise the hotel a lot and seem to be contended with their current customer base. A lot of the guests here are repeat customers. The others come mainly by word-of-mouth. May sound lazy to some but it seems like true 'susegad' goan spirit !
(*) The rooms are very clean and spacious and very unlike typical crammed hotel rooms. The feeling is more of a well furnished villa rather than a hotel room. This is specially nice since this is located in the market area where space is premium. This would be ideal for someone looking for a long stay in Goa.
(*) The rooms facing the road have a nice balcony (I stayed in the road facing room). Although this overlooks the main street luckily it wasnt noisy inside. The room had a nice terrace which is used as a sundeck. I was told only 2 such rooms have a terrace.
(*) Location of the hotel is just perfect. It is close to the main beach, popular restaurants, ATM, utility shops and malls (diagonally opp to Newtons mall on one side and a new mall on the other side). The taxi stand is just next to the main entrance. Although we had out own vehicle this is useful for those use public transport.
(*) The 'Mughul Darbar' restaurant below serves execellent Indian food. Since we had a couple of veg friends this came in handy since most of the Goan and Western food is non-vegetarian (read fish). They have an excellent Raan (roasted thigh of a goat marinated with indian spices and dry fruits) in their menu. One needs to book the order a day earlier for this. Although I seen a big Russian group enjoying the Raan, I would recommended to instruct the waiter before hand if they prefer it less spicy.
(*) There is a lane next to the hotel which goes straight to the beach. Because of this the beach is extremly close and one need not take the main beach road which is around 100 meters away.Unfortunately I learnt of this from the security guard on the last day ! I wouldnt advise to use this after dark (although I was told it is safe) since I encountered a couple of stray dogs there after sunset.
(*) There was a fridge in the room instead of the typical cooler like mini bar (maybe the spacious room was the reason for having a bigger fridge). I thought this was a small but worthwhile consideration. We made full use of it to store lots of ice and a bottle of champagne.
(*) Since it is located on the main candolim street, there is not much open area/space around the hotel. This was not a problem for us but would be disliked for someone who is with kids and prefer a play area around the hotel.
All in all, an excellent place which made by stay very comfortable and memorable. Will see you around next Dec too !!!
