“good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

One of the best and luxury hotels in Patna. The rooms are good and well done. However, they are little small in size. The reception could have been little proactive to receive the guests. They have the classic arrogances of a govt hotel. The attendants and servers are well mannered. The food is also good, but expensive. Good for business trips.

“a decent hotel to stay in”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

I have booked my package through Indiahorizons site for complete buddhist tour, it included 9 cities, which included Patna also..
As it is the capital, its too congested and traffic was horrible.
A Decent hotel with good food, but one can definately have other properties also, as we were bound by our entire tour.
Our stay was of 1 night i.e on 19th Nov 2011, with total 06 rooms, all the 6 rooms were very decent...

Room Tip: Rooms are vey decent

Truly, on the best Patna has in store.
A bit cheaper than the number 1 ,"Maurya", Chanakya stands as a better option if you are going to stay in the city for long.
rooms are decntly good, and well maintained.
The food, no words, its really good but you have to spare good number of bucks for it"(Five star rates)
Overall a good value for money.

Room Tip: Try negotiating fares if you plan to stay for long

“Clunky!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

The TV was new and flamboyant. The floor was not dusted for the past few days.i was given a pair of linen sandals;thanks to my vocal chords. The table too was dirty.
The toilet & toiletries passed muster.Hot water came off the tap right away.
The towels were clean and white.
The bed was soft, fluffy and lovely.Slept like a baby!
There is no free internet.
Shoving the curtain drapes revealed a window without a latch.A few pots were placed on the external sill to prevent unlawful entry.
The food was first rate.Minestrone soup was hot, large and tasted swell. The onion parantha was an onion uthappa in wheat clothing. No offence meant.Tasted good. The bhendi-tomato sabzi was amazingly good. The ladies' fingers were long and juicy.Hats off to their chef. The roti was crisp.
The hotel decor needs a facelift as it seems to be from the age of Chanakya.
Go for this hotel if you are not paying from your pocket.

“The best of the Patna business traveler hotels”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

I've had occasion to stay in four different hotels in Patna in the past few months and the Chanakya is the best of the bunch, although it's all relative, so don't go in with overly high expectations. The front desk is comparatively helpful, the Takshila restaurant is really quite good, beds are comfortable, it's fairly quiet. Breakfast is a bit grim and the wifi rarely works - that's super-irritating. But compared to the hideous, wildly overpriced, totally dysfunctional and dirty Maurya, or the absurd Ashoka, with its belligerent, unhelpful staff and its dreadful restaurant, the Chanakya is a bit of an oasis. Room was very clean, if dark and gloomy; it did smell a bit moldy. Few staff member speak much English - which is true in all these hotels - but at least they're courteous as they try to help figure things out, instead of hostile .... It's fine, the Chanakya. And in Patna, fine feels like a god-send.
