I've had occasion to stay in four different hotels in Patna in the past few months and the Chanakya is the best of the bunch, although it's all relative, so don't go in with overly high expectations. The front desk is comparatively helpful, the Takshila restaurant is really quite good, beds are comfortable, it's fairly quiet. Breakfast is a bit grim and the wifi rarely works - that's super-irritating. But compared to the hideous, wildly overpriced, totally dysfunctional and dirty Maurya, or the absurd Ashoka, with its belligerent, unhelpful staff and its dreadful restaurant, the Chanakya is a bit of an oasis. Room was very clean, if dark and gloomy; it did smell a bit moldy. Few staff member speak much English - which is true in all these hotels - but at least they're courteous as they try to help figure things out, instead of hostile .... It's fine, the Chanakya. And in Patna, fine feels like a god-send.
