I stayed at the Taj Banjara for business for 4 nights in January 2012. As another reviewer mentioned, the entrance to the hotel is a bit of a bear. Like all of Hyderabad, the traffic on the main road is simply chaos--and so walking to places from the hotel can be a bit of an adventure. There are two malls up the street from the hotel. I would suggest taking a car or auto rickshaw--it's just a more sane way to travel through Hyderabad!
The hotel is set back off the main road, which is nice. However, there is what I would call a "stinky swamp" between the road and the hotel. There is a campaign to clean it up, but I imagine that this will take time. The odor from the water made it nearly impossible to sit outside--either at the bar or restaurant, which is a shame because the spaces are really nice.
A group of us took advantage of Ladies' Night on Fridays in the hotel bar. I think this is a regular offering. Ladies get free beer & well drinks for a few hours on Friday nights, making the swamp odor a bit more tolerable at least one night of the week!
The bar also offered "all you can drink" packages for couples and individuals. I'm not sure this is the most healthy option, but I think it can be cost effective if you have more than 3 beers on a night out.
I enjoyed my stay at Taj Banjara, but until the swamp gets a makeover, I might consider staying at a different Taj next time I'm in Hyderabad.
