Peerless resort at port blair has its property located right on the corbyn's cove (beach) and my stay over there had been rather pleasant. We booked a 3 nights 4 days package (inclusive of city tour, ferry tour to the Viper Island and all meals) The hotel staff was polite, the service provided was good and the meals provided were just about palatable.
I could have easily done away with taking the meals included option as there is a quaint and clean restaurant right next door called Waves which provided meals at literally 1/6th the price and needless to mention that Seafood was absolutely fresh, delicious and cheap (for eg; a portion of golden fried prawns cost around £ 1 approx INR 81)
The tour offered by the Hotel was rather sad. We had a port blair city tour of the Cellular Jail, the anthropological and naval museums and the aquarium....All of this was no fun as there were hardly any exhibits left and their management was literally in tatters! The second day entailed a most disappointing Viper Island tour which was a one hour ferry ride from the local dock to an island containing ruins of some really old gallows and NOTHING ELSE! AVOID the local ferry rides as they don't move till they have an overload of passengers like local buses in India and reek of diesel fumes!
Thus after two days of a rather painful experience, I took out my snorkel gear, headed to the local dock, chartered a speed boat (cost around £25) and went to the North Bay Coral Island which was a respite as the experience was soul stirring, the most amazing corals n fishes to spend time with. The Jolly Buoy, Havelock and Red Coral Islands are far better options to visit and stay and also for remarkable diving experience at the Indian Ocean. Do Book in advance!
Avoid the package tour at this property and I'd rather suggest to just book the room. Do check the status of the flights as there are a lot of cancellations due to bad weather and empty flights!
