“Very Relaxing with awesome food... Great place to vegg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

Otto and Fanny's a one of a kind in the Yasawas.

This resort doesn't have much a beach and the tradewinds blew almost constantly while we were there but it still worked out to be one of our favorite places in the Yasawas (of the 4 we stayed at: Manta Ray, Oarsmans bay, Octopus).

The food is AMAZING. Lo and her kitchen staff really do a great job with different choices every night. We stayed for 3 nights and each night the food was incredible. Buffet style dinners, with 5+ options every meal. From our experience this is really hard to come by in the Yasawas at the budget resorts. They cook alot of traditional dishes and really work with the local produce which makes it fantastic.

The resort itself is not amazing but its comfortable and clean. Our bure was the largest of the 4 places we stayed with a self-contained washroom. No hot water unfortunately but it wasn't a big problem.

The staff and the food were responsible for our great time here as there really isn't much to do on the island.

BEWARE....

Transfers to and from other resorts are very expensive if you stay here. Over $40/person for less then a 10 min transfer. Also trips to the blue lagoon (easy access from here) was $20/person each way... Worked out to $80 for 2 of us for a 10 min boat ride... Its where this resort sneakily makes its money. If you do want to go to the blue lagoon from here, take the 10 min hike to Coral view resort and pay them $15 for a return trip/person to the blue lagoon. We made this mistake and got stung with the bill.

Room Tip: All bures looked similar.

“Rustic paradise! Our favourite place to stay in 7 months of travelling - will definitely return one day!”

We stayed at Octopus, Mantaray and Safe Landing during our two weeks in Fiji and this place was by far and away our favourite. So much so that as we hadn’t decided where to stay for the final two days of our time in Fiji we went back to Otto and Fanny’s – despite the fact it was a 2 hour boat ride back in the opposite direction! The first time we stayed in a garden bure which was large and simply furnished but comfortable and clean and the next time in the traditional bure which was beautiful.

On our arrival the first time we discovered we had the place to ourselves for the night – the resort is a huge area with lots of palm trees and hammocks for relaxing. The white sandy beach in front of the resort wraps around the island until you get to a rocky point and, as there were no other guests we had this to ourselves. There is a coral reef just off the beach where we saw angel fish, clown fish, a moray eel and sting rays amongst many other things. You can also watch beautiful sunsets from here.

The food was really good, varied and plentiful – all meals were served as a buffet so you could help yourself eg: pancakes, cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast, meats, breads, spring rolls/samosas and a variety of salads for lunch and things such as fish pie, chicken in wine and a selection of fresh vegetables for the evening. Be sure to try some banana cake during your stay – if it is not served as a dessert get some for the boat trip!

The staff were friendly in a laid back way – you were left to your own devices unless you asked for anything - and there was no evening entertainment unlike all the other resort we visited. This place might not be for everyone. In the time we stayed another couple were there and they found it too quiet as they preferred a busy resort style place which this is definitely not. Also the rooms are more basic than at some of the other resorts in the Yasawas – cold water showers and limited electricity, but for us it was perfect and exactly what we had been looking for. We will definitely be back one day!

“Amazing Place, Would Give Anything To Stay There.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

Went to Otto & Fannys for 4 days, 3 nights, it is amazing -
The food, the sand, the beach, the people, the view, everything is breathtaking. To my dismay, my family and I didnt get the chance to meet Otto, as he passed away 2 weeks before our trip. Fanny, Harry and everyone else on the island is so friendly and I cant wait to go again ! Before 2012 surely.

“The Ultimate Escape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

Felt like we were on our own private island. The boys aged 10mths to 5 years ran free with no restrictions. Spent Xmas Day and the staff made a real effort to make it festive. The food was excellent and Fanny's coconut cake to die for. This is only budget accommodation, but perfectly adequate. Very casual, but who can ask for more than to lie in a hammock between a couple of coconut palms sipping on green coconut milk.

“Private, clean, gorgeous food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

Otto and Fanny's is not luxurious compared to Fiji resort standards, but that was part of the charm. I stayed in the dorm and only had to share with one other person at the time. I had been staying on another resort on Tavewa and found it hypersocial and crowded. O&F afforded me privacy and Ape and Jimmy were still attentive in a laidback and friendly way.
With only about 5 other bures and the dorm room, I had space to feel like a human being again as opposed to a sardine. It is a family owned business and Jimmy took myself and the other guests staying for a kava night with the rest of the family. The food was wonderful- I ate like a queen! Unlike some on the resorts in Yasawa, you do not have to pay for meals there with accomodation, but really, when the food is this good, you may as well try it for one day.
The snorkelling which I travelled to the Yasawas for was just off the beach and I spent countless hours exploring the waterlife and idled away on the hammocks. It was a piece of paradise that I still hold dear to my heart there.
