“Corner of Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2010

Palmlea Farms Lodge & Villa is a wonderful place with a soul, a corner of paradise, a peaceful retreat for the busy minds. Joe and Julie make all their guests feel special and the beautiful surroundings are a real delight. The Fijian staff is part of the experience too and the food is fantastic. Joe makes sure that the guests leave the dinner table with a big smile on their faces. It is an off the beaten track resort definitely worth a visit ! It is the best value for your dollars !

“We discovered the perfect way to pamper ourselves after five months of sailing across the Pacific.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

One week turned in three weeks, hanging out and enjoying the superb cuisine (taking a break from cooking on the boat), mornings in the lap pool, paddling the new kayaks up to the mangroves and river as well as taking their blue heeler named Tilly for afternoon walks to watch the sunset. Every day was an adventure. Days were spent fishing, hiking, snorkeling, bus trips to Savu Savu or the Waisali Rainforest Reserve or reading in the hammock under a shady mango tree. The snorkeling spots had great visibility with beautiful corals and a wide variety of colourful fish. Our hosts were exceptionally charming, helpful and entertaining with their stories, taking time to visit all their guests at each meal. What an idyllic celebration of our Pacific crossing - thank you again Joe and Julie!

“The most relaxing break ever.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

My husband and I spent a fantastic seven day stay at Palmlea Lodge and apart from the friendliness of the owners and staff we could not speak more highly of it.The food was superb as was the service and attention to detail. As we were both somewhat stressed on arrival we were allowed to just "veg out". We spent our days swimming in the lovely lap pool, walks down to the ocean and just sitting there admiring the views, reading and sleeping - what more could one want?
We will certainly go back there and will inform our friends of its existence.

“If we could have changed one part of our Fiji trip we would have stayed here longer than an afternoon.”

We visited Palmlea for the afternoon as part of a day trip from Savusavu to Labasa. We enjoyed ourselves so much I felt compelled to write a review!

After a lovely drive (and an exciting/bumpy last 4km’s) we arrived to a deserted resort. Minutes later we were formally greeted by the beautiful Tilly, an Australian Blue Heeler. Upon walking up to the restaurant we were approached by a lovely Fijian lady who told us we had been seen driving to the resort, and other staff were on the way. She took our drink orders and minutes later it was all on. A SUV turned up with a group of Fijian women who had the kitchen up and running in minutes.

We were treated to a wonderful lunch. Not everything was available on the menu, but it didn’t matter. What was on there was gold. The waitress (possibly also the chef) stayed to watch the look of joy of our faces as we ate the first bite of the rum balls and apple pie we had ordered for dessert. There is a rumour the best chef on the island works here, and it may be true.

During lunch the friendly couple that owned the place turned up and that’s when you understood why there was so much pride in the resort. They have built a place that is about giving to the community they live in.

We were given a tour of the resort and it was really top notch. Including an incredible 25 metre lap pool. We were surprised to find out the resort was full. Where the punters were was anyone’s guess. But there were a lot of activities available, including a trip to the fascinating Labasa township.

After seeing the place, it would have been a great addition to our trip to find the real Fiji. We would have stayed here a couple of nights rather than staying in Savusavu as long as we did. It is an easy trip from Savusavu too. Just jump on a Labasa bus and asked to be dropped off at the turn off. The buses on Vanua Levu were a great, cheap experience in themselves.
