I stayed in Vuna Lagoon Lodge for 3 days. I wanted to do some diving in Taveuni but could not easily find the budget accomodation I needed (as a solo backpacker). I struggled to book this place, and once you get there it's easy to understand why. There is only electricity for 3 hours a day, and no internet! Nevertheless they replied to my emails eventually, and had someone at the airport ready to pick me up as agreed.
The one hour drive down to Vuna, which ends up taking two hours once you account for "fiji time", is very pleasant. Take the opportunity to stop at the town halfway down the island, because resources are scarce beyond that.
The place itself is back to basics, the ultimate little getaway. The view is simply amazing, and it is very remote and quiet. The garden is very well tended to, and has lots of fantastic plants and flowers.
I opted to have my meals cooked, which was the most convenient, but to be honest a little tedious after a while. Overall I wouldn't say I've loved Fiji food but that's no judgement on Senote's skills - more a personal tastebud disagreement with the local habits : )
I went diving with Paradise Taveuni, which are located a good 45 minute walk away, but provide pick up and drop off. I was even picked up for an evening kava ceremony! The diving and resort combination worked well for my budget.
Overall, this is a beautiful, remote, and simple comfort sort of place, so if you're looking for some relaxation and time alone, it's perfect. If you're looking for a party, you've come to the wrong place ; )
