“Great hotel and staff, but nightclub on beach completely spoils it.”

Having booked this holiday just a week before we went , we were looking for a relaxing week away from the British winter. After trawling through websites and visiting First Choice we decided on the Holiday Village in Sharm el Sheik. A week in the sun with our 11 year old daughter was booked and away we went. We live in South Wales so having to fly from Birmingham wasn't an issue. We booked the Airparks facility for £22 which was a bargain, they take you straight to the departure terminal in a bus, takes about 15 minutes and runs every 20 minutes or so. Check in straight forward, usual stores trying to prise money out of your wallet and onto the flight. It was on time which always gets the holiday off to a great start. Now i don't know how tall the people that Thomson's model their seat design on, but it cant be anybody above 5 and a half foot! I have never been on a flight that has been that cramped, no space what so ever.
Decent flight down, took just under 5 hours, and off the plane. Your given a visa on the flight to fill in, this has to be stamped by immigration, only pay them if you want leave the resort and go to the pyramids for example, if your staying in the resort do not pay any money and make sure you tell them. Easy to collect cases and then outside to meet the Thomson reps. Nice short transfer to the hotel which was taken by a comical local guide.
Fist impressions of the hotel were great, very clean, make sure you fill in the cards the reps give at the airport as it saves a lot of time when checking in at the hotel. You leave you cases outside the front door and you are taken in groups to find your room. Its quite impressive as you walk through the gardens for the first time, nice water features, play grounds for the children and a really pleasant atmosphere. We had booked a jacuzzi suite and we weren't disappointed at the size and facilities you get for your money. A superb sized bathroom, this is split into 3 parts, a toilet area, a centre area for the wash basin and an excellent walk in shower. The sleeping area again was large with a superb sized bed which was wider than it was long!. The terrace was large enough with the jacuzzi set in the corner. Word of warning if you like your privacy and you are given a room in block 3 ask to move straight away, there is pathway 10 meters away from the terraces which gives you no privacy at all.
First venture into the restaurant gave us a first taste of the great selection and range of food that we enjoyed for the week. Always something to choose from, always hot, never had that canteen feeling, although the breakfast can be somewhat of a mission to get a seat. The only negative was the waiters started to clear away the deserts long before the end of the meal session, making you rush sometimes.
Bed was calling so our first night gave us a taste of what was to come. Even though we were very tired after a full day of travelling the noise from the nightclub on the beach was so loud!. We managed to drop off after 2 to 3 hours and were promptly woken up at half 6 by the little cherubs above us running up and down the room.
The welcome meeting the following day was the usual 10 minutes on the resort and then the sales pitch on the excursions. They did not give enough info on where the relevant children's clubs were and where to sign in etc. The pool areas are superb, clean and the staff cannot do enough for you. Pools are absolutely freezing , except the heated pool which is to the left of the main reception area. This pool gets all the sun beds taken very very quickly, we thought the Germans had arrived as you have to get up early to get a bed. We tended to stay at the main pool by the beach as it gave us access to the children's clubs, pool bar and was near to the room.
Our second night was unbearable due to the music coming from the beach!. The bass coming from the speakers literally made our windows vibrate. Not a minutes sleep was had that night and morning couldn't come quick enough. We reported this to one of the reps who said it had been like this since she started at the resort 6 months ago!!! 8 rooms were moved that day due to the music. We were told that every Tuesday they have a foam party where the music is turned up and not to worry as it wont be the same that night. It happened again on our third night, we phoned reception, who sent someone down to complain, but after 15 minutes the music was turned back up loader than ever. Enough was enough, literally 8 hours sleep in 3 nights was not the type of holiday we had booked, perhaps 20 years ago on an 18-30, but not this one as my wife has a major operation on the 20th and this week was for her to relax and take her mind off it.
Off to the rep again to ask for a room change as we just wanted to fly home. She duly filled out the complaint form and said as soon as the manager was in she would arrange a change with him. We were told to wait until she called me on my mobile to come to reception. We went back to the room and packed, something you don't really want to do half way through your holiday. After waiting 2 hours for a call that never came I decided to chase up what was going on, as we were wasting a day of our holiday. The rep took me to the assistant manager, who offered us "an upgrade to a jacuzzi suite". We were in one already so it wasn't a sweetener at all. We told to come back in 2 hours as the room was not ready. So we waited around wasting more time. Eventually we were taken to the room in block 1 with a view of the beach. Only difference that the plasma was a bit bigger. Lets hope we get a decent nights sleep in this one.
The night time entertainment varies from night to night. For the families there is the paroahs bar which can be a bit Butlins at times, but it does cater for everybody. Reps work very hard to put a show on most nights, so credit where credits due. After 3 nights we used the View Bar as it was near the children's clubs so easy to collect them as you have to sign them in and out. You have to be fit on this holiday as the amount of walking you have to do does add up. Its a ten minute walk from reception to the children's club. Its a pain if you are in the buffet and have sign your child in a the club and then have to walk back to the entertainment area. The View bar is adults only and is a great escape from the kids, we found quite a few mums and dads with the same idea as us. It got frustrating in the adult bar though as the quiz they put on would finish around 10.40, on goes the entertainment, we always had to leave half way through as the children's activities finished at 11. It wasn't fair on the reps who saw half they bar empty half way through their act.
It was the first night in our new room and we were crossing our fingers, hoping there would be no noise. We weren't that lucky, although the bass wasn't as bad, the music was still so loud. The only way we could sleep was to have the air conditioning on, freeze to death to drown out the noise from the beach. There was no point in moving again so we just had to enjoy the days and dread the nights.
The weather wasn't the best , it got better towards the end of the week, but nothing can be down about that.
To sum up its a great hotel, excellent food, room quality and staff with so much to do for the children. For the adults its a bit limited, but you do this type of holiday for the children. The First Choice reps are great, always on hand.
Now the negatives. There is no chance of sleep in blocks 3,5 and 1. Do not book a jacuzzi room, not worth the money. I acknowledge the hotel has no control over the music coming from the nightclub on the beach as they do not own it, but First Choice have known about this issue for months and nothing is being done about it. This is not a 2 star holiday, customers are paying on average £1500 to £2000 a week for this "relaxing break". We had our holiday ruined by the music, having to move half way through the holiday, not being able to use the new room on the second day as it was being fumigated and the smell of what can only be described as petrol was too strong for us even to enter it. Staff came and sprayed air freshener . Simply not good enough.
You will have an amazing break if you can get a room where the music does not keep you awake. This review is not to put people off the hotel as it is genuinely very very good. Call the hotel first if you can to avoid blocks 3,5 and 1. Otherwise take pot luck, and take your ear plugs.

Room Tip: Call hotel first to make sure the room is not one that is affected by the music from the nightclub o...

“Red Sea Holiday Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

This hotel is part of a chain owned by Coral Sea Resorts. It is sometimes mistaken for the Coral Sea Holiday Village, a sister hotel.
Second time here for us and we are still happy to visit again. On arrival at Sharm airport arrivals do not be shepherded to the left for a visa you don't need. They want cash and you only need one if you are leaving Sinai (trips to Cairo, Luxor, Pyramids etc, ask your travel company for advice). Keep right and head for Passports.
15 mins to hotel.
Room 4207 was ours after an upgrade and was large, clean and comfortable with a walk in wardrobe. Beds are enormous but fairly hard, ask for a topper (or two) and they become much more comfy. Try to get a block that isn't long otherwise you have other guests coming up and down the corridors, coming in and going out. Rooms above the swim up rooms and above the jacuzzi rooms are a good bet.
The food here is good. It isn't the Ritz but you get what you pay for. There is plenty of choice, as much as you want and no stomach problems whatsoever for the two weeks we were there. They do a barbecue two or three times per week and the goodies can be found in the main buffet restaurant next to the barbecue area, TASTY. There are six food venues here. The biggest is the main buffet style restaurant then there are three smaller themed restaurants (Chinese, Indian & Mediterranean). There are two other restaurants but these are not included in the All Inclusive deal. La Mer (fish restaurant. I have been here before and the lobster is out of this world and extremely cheap). The other is the Stonegrill, I think. Not tried this so can't comment.
All the staff are the same as the last time we were, very friendly, happy and can't do enough for you. Egyptian salaries are very low and tips really do help to make up for this. I was talking to a security guard early one morning whilst waiting for an excursion bus. He is paid 700 Egyptian Pounds per month, about £70 Sterling. The hotel staff really do appreciate the odd one pound coin or even a fiver if you are feeling generous. They never ask for tips and never give any indication that they are after one but I will tell you something, give a waiter a five pound note at the bar when you arrive and you will not have to ask for a drink again.
The same applies at the beach. We had a great young lad called Hermina. Hard working and always happy. I gave him a pound coin every morning we used the beach and we wanted for nothing. Tips add up for these guys over a month so don't be mean. Great service is standard here but you do get first nod if ever there is a queue if you show some appreciation.
Weather was a bit poor for about four or five days when we visited (Jan 30th - Feb 13th 2012). Windy and overcast (unusual here). First eight days were hot and clear and calm 77 - 80 degrees. It became misty on day nine, a dusty mist. then overcast and windy until Sunday 12th Feb when it was lovely . Monday 13th, beautiful. I think it may have been something to do with the unusual freezing weather across Europe and North Africa, but I am no weatherman. The previous visit was April and it was 90 everyday. Just a one off I guess. You read about Sharm airport being a pain. April 2010, it took nearly two hours to get through when we arrived. This time it was about twenty five minutes. Departure isn't too bad but then who is thinking of going home when you haven't even arrived??? I haven't tried any other hotels in Sharm because I get worried about food, especially at All Inclusive hotels. So this is why we go where we know and trust. The First Choice reps are great, especially with kids, this is a great place for families. There is a diving centre on the beach called Aquarius who do all types of trips and there is Simon's Oils. Great place for all sorts of gifts. He gave me some free Aloe Vera oil for my burnt forehead when my wife was buying some starfish for the bathroom????, worked a treat.
One niggle and I have to be honest when giving reviews. This hotel is on the beach and a little further down the beach is a beach bar that opens quite late with music, Pataya. One night, I think Thursday Feb 2nd it was very loud, at 3.30 in the morning. I got out of bed and walked down there. I asked the DJ to turn it down. There was one guy on the dancefloor. Don't ask.... No idea why one bloke finds it enjoyable dancing on his own just before dawn. Anyway, the volume after that was not significant to cause a problem. But it might, they are not tied to any of the hotels and they have a valid licence. All in all, if you are booked into the Red Sea Holiday Village you will enjoy it and 90% of guests are British. Enjoy, relax and be looked after.

Room Tip: Block four upstairs. 4201, 4202, 4203, 4204, 4206, 4207.

we have just returned home today 14th feb 2012 this was our second visit to the holiday visit in 13 months because we were so impressed the first time.il start this review with two words that sum our holiday up for us and its simply WOW WEEE. we were treated extra special and before i go into detail can i just say to whome ever reads this review from the hotel managment THANKYOU VERY MUCH for taking the time to listen and care about what people write here cus i know someone is working hard to ensure they better this hotel, as it was very obvious on our second stay that things had improved from our last visit, and i gota say it was hard to improve anything cus for us it was bang on the first time.... The weather this week wasnt too good bit over cast and windy but hey ho thats the risks you take it didnt spoil anything for us was still fantastic. il start with the staff here cus they are by far the best thing about our stay this time. on our first visit my little girl was a bit scared of the young lads that tried to laugh and joke with her and it made us feel a bit uncomfortable at times. i mentioned this in my last review.thankyou managment this has been stopped. all staff are very pleasant cheerful and go out off there way to make you feel very wanted and special in their hotel.allways smiling nothing is ever too much for them.take no notice of the tipping stories some refer to because no member of staff here expect you to tip there is absolutely no need to tip for loungers as ive seen mentioned because you can get one anytime.you dont have to tip in advance either this hotel is just simply all inclusive that doesnt mean its silver service so dont expect to be waited on like your on a cruise.only tip for something that you think was a job well done for example...we were shown to our room which was very clean very spaceous it was beautiful but when i walked onto the balcony i saw we were on second floor, im scared of heights and get panic attacks i went straight down to reception and at the click of his finger the man behind the desk called someone to take me to another room less than ten minutes later we were eating our dinner in the dining hall.. they took our cases for us we didnt have to do a thing ouselves.for such swift and efficient service i tipped the lad 4 english pound coins and you would have thought id given him a weeks wages.we are fortunate to have taken 5 holidays in 12 months and the staff here are the best weve seen abroad well done to them and thankyou very much indeed....onto the food. omg this is amazing lol im such a greedy pig i have to try everything on offer and the stranger it looks the better i like it haha try their own dishes they are very good. you are on holiday in egypt why would you want crapey english burger and chips... the food here is of high quality lots of lovely dishes to try out, remember its a buffet take a little at a time try it out and go back for something different if you dont like.you can always find something to fill your belly the food is amazing.i gained five pounds lmao worth it i tell ya.loved the al a carte restaurants 3 to choose from, indian chinese and mediterainian the service in these is fab makes a lovely change to the buffet if you need somewhere quieter go to these youl enjoy.....onto the reps and entertainment now. wow 4 kids clubs a day they saw more of my 6 year old little girl than i did. she absolutely loved it 10 clock till 12... 2.30 till 4clock... 4.30 till 6clock, and finally if they can stay awake after all that great fun 9 clock till 11.... and other stuff going on in between. thes reps work their butts off and are very good at their jobs truely talented young english guys who are obviously enjoying there work.your kids are very safe here well done to this team of reps you are the best ive seen...il finish this review with an over all opinion of this holiday.this hotel is spotless clean 2 visits and never had a dodgy belly that ive seen mentioned sorry to those who did it carnt be nice to get ill abroad.but speak as i find and i found it very clean very effient very pleasant. a truely fantastic holiday amazing value for money... finally after being home less than 12 hours lol im looking to book again for our 20th anniversary at the end of may this year only 12 weeks or so to wait hahaha and 7 days is not enough il be booking two whole weeks of pure heaven here.i wont be wasting my time looking elsewhere cus this place is the bees knees for me.so the sun better have its hat on this time cus im definately coming out to play.again thanks to managment for the special little touches they added this year much appreciated and im very impressed that you took the time to care x

Room Tip: closer to reception is quieter

“Excellent Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

My boyfriend and I booked a last minute holiday with First Choice to Coral Sea Holiday Village on the 5th Feb for 1 week. We had a Jacuzzi room which we enjoyed every evening whilst the sun went down. The room was Huge, with a nice bathroom and a walk in wardrobe. The food in the main buffet was ok but very busy. The al a carte restaurants were lovely and the staff were very friendly. It is a great place for kids as there was kids club and entertainment all the time! The beach is lovely and there are plenty of sun loungers all close the beach bar and snack buffet. There are endless activities and 1 week just wasn't enough! I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and we will definitely be returning with the rest of the family!

“Fabulous Time, Will Be Back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We booked as a last minute deal with First Choice holidays having never been to Egypt before and wanting some winter sun. It was my husband and I along with my 9yr old daughter and son who had his 8th birthday whilst we were there. We stayed in a family den room which was huge. The bathroom is roughly 15ft x 8ft and the kids den seperate room part was about 8ft x 10ft I'd guess. The double bed in our room was huge 6ft wide and yes its hard as other revieweres have said but that suits me as I hate soft beds. The kids playground was right outside our room and we were near the main pool with the water slides which although wasnt heated didnt deter my children from gong in and enjoying. We also went to the quiet/heated pool which was busier but also lovely and we had no trouble getting sunbeds, we did tip £1 to towel staff every day and they found them for us but we did the same for our housekeeper and bar staff too.
Food was lovely and huge variety in the buffet restaurant if you couldnt find something to eat I'm at a loss as to what you'd eat at hom. Pancakes, donughts, pastries, breads, toast, meats, cheeses, baked beans, chicken sausage, beef bacon, tomatoes, french toast scrambled/poached/fried eggs, cereals, yoghurts, fruits, omlettes etc on offer for breakfast to give you an idea.
Our room was cleaned daily and we had lovely towel designs including a birthday cake towel design on our sons birthday. On our sons birthday we went to the chinese a la carte restaurant where the staff sang to him and he was brought a birthday cake, food here and service was fabulous as it was in the mediterranean restaurant (didnt try indian one).
Beach was nice and my children enjoyed a camel ride, sea is very shallow for a good way out which suited me as I felt it was safer for the children.
We went to the spa at the start and end of holiday for a massage/mud wrap package with facials and it was lovely staff there were very friendly as well and they braided my daughters hair for free and gave her a gentle massage etc as well included as we did spend quite a bit with them .
Kids club was great as was the i-5-live show of an evening. We went to the adult only bar one evening whilst the kids were at an evening chocolate party and that was very busy but possibly full of other parents who had the same idea.
Overall a fabulous holiday with lovely, friendly, staff who seem to take pride in where they work and enjoy making your holiday an enjoyable relaxing time. My son didnt want to come home and thats a first for him.

Room Tip: Block 5 is right by kids play area and near main pool with slides
