We stayed here for two weeks at the end of November/beginning of December with Thomson in the newer Jasmine Part.
Transfer takes about 20-30 minutes from the airport. On arrival at the hotel we were offered a welcome drink and asked to fill in a registration form, take your own pen as there wasn’t any spare. We were taken to our room by a porter who then waited to be tipped.
The room itself was basic with no tea, coffee making facilities or a full length mirror. The bathroom was really dated and had the oldest hairdryer I’ve ever seen, girls take your own the handle got to hot to hold before my hair was dry. When booking and again before we arrived we asked for a room which wasn’t on the ground floor, we were given a ground floor room. Another couple asked for a ground floor room and they were given a first floor room, so don’t expect to get what you ask for. The cleaners did do a good job at keeping it clean though.
The all inclusive could be better, the main hotel bar in reception refuse to give you bottled water even at 1055 as all inclusive doesn’t start till 1100. The staff at this bar are also the most unhappy people I have ever come across in hotels abroad. They take your empty cups away but never ask if you would like another drink, they also have 4 people standing behind the bar but when you ask for a drink, only one person actually serves so you have to wait for him to finish serving while the others stand there chatting. The drinks are served in the tiniest cups, but if you take your own plastic cup they’ll fill it up for you.
We started by eating in the main Jasmine restaurant, but started missing meals as there was a lack of tables, you often had to sit with others on the same table, wait for the table to be re-laid and ask twice for a drink. We tried the other restaurant under reception and found this far better. It was a lot quieter with plenty of empty tables and the waiters had your drinks waiting for you. The food was average for all inclusive, repetitive after two weeks and lacking taste slightly. We tried the Italian restaurant and it wasn’t all that, there was one person with a whole restaurant full. Everyone was booked in for 1900 which didn’t help. The food lacked flavour too.
The pools were freezing and sunbeds were taken at 0700 by guests who then turned up at 0930, nothing was done to police this. The pool bars were open daily with drinks and snacks available, although it always seemed to take ages too be served.
The beach the hotel uses is The Gaffey Beach Resort which takes less than 5 minutes to walk to, although this is 5 minutes that you will get hassled by the locals wanting you to buy things too! The beach itself is nice, and the food is good value for money although drinks are a little expensive, but we always took bottles of water from the hotel. You need to get vouchers from reception to use the beach, but your hotel towel cards allow you to get towels from the beach so you don't have to carry them.
As soon as you walk out of the hotel onto the road every taxi stops but a firm no usually does the trick. If you wonder to Naama Bay expect a lot of hassle, everyone wants to talk to you, wants to know where you are from etc. We found the best way to see Naama Bay was the Friday Feeling trip which cost £10.00 each and took you to 4 bars, as we were in a big group we weren’t hassled and the shops were still open. We also went to Soho Square which also cost £10.00 each. If you are going here, they have a dress code for the restaurants so you’ll need to dress up a little. There’s also an Ice Bar which you get vouchers for, it’s worth a visit just to say you’ve been.
Overall the hotel was just average, I couldn’t find anything that made it stand out. I wouldn’t return as I found Sharm an in your face resort where the men try to hard and just come across as sleazy.
