“For the price excellent. Good 10 day stay”
Having read the reviews here I decided to take what I classed a sensible advice from some of the posters.
So here goes for the review, I will break down each area into good points and bad points
Good points
Staff: the Staff are really helpful, from reception through to cleaners and restuarant and bar staff. Special Mention for Ahmed on the roof Bar who doesn't seem to like cold water from the pool ;) but keeps your drinks constantly topped up during day and evening and Jackson, predominatly in the Restaurant and Basement bar. We also had a problem with and external travel company, the guys on reception were ever so helpful trying to rectify the problem.
Rooms: Big, cool and really comfortable bed. The bathroom and toilet area was also big with hot water on tap as soon as you wanted it, unlike many hotels and apartments I have stayed in over the years. Rooms cleaned every day with cleaners always leaving us some sort of sculpted sheet/towel offering from puppies to crocodiles :)
Restaurant: We took advice from here and went down at the start of service where the food was always hot and plentiful. Although we were all inclusive, we only used the restuarant for breakfast and Lunch, we went out and discovered restaurants in the evening.
Bars: Roof top bar was the best, although in the evening it did get a little chilly, although it was starting to warm up by the end of the 10 days. Basement bar, we generlly went in for 30 mins to and hour in the evening before heading out, it was okay.
Location: Excellent for the centre of Naama bay, just a short 5 minute walk and you are on the main strip.
Beach: Narrow fine sandy beach, easy access to the water and all inclusive food and drinks there on the beach for you.
Pool: Clean
Bad Points
Staff: I have no complaints, all very happy to get drinks, follow up on questions and help with complaints that were nothing to do with the hotel. Granted the hotel wasn't massively busy, so maybe they are more attentive in January than in June-August
Rooms: Just a bit of nit picking, at it seems to be the Egyptian way. They go to all the bother of putting in nice marble tiling and standard tiling, then get the yts boy into grout it, leaving the finish look a little poor, wood such as archatraive could do with a lick of paint just to spruce it up, just a little touch would improve it so much.
Restaurant: Get there early to ensure the food is fresh and hot, otherwise you could end up with little. The restaurant itself looks a lot like a motorway cafe/restaurant in it's layout, and it could do with better lighting to make it more welcoming. The food although not awful, is very samey, Beef, Chicken, Fish, Rice, Potatoes, vegetables, varity of salad dishes, Soup, Bread and then a spagetti or pasta dish with a Bolognaise sauce. This would be the same every day, they way the cooked the beef, Chicken and fish would change and the potatoes. I would suggest the food is aimed a multitude of nationalities, and although not horrible, was maybe a bit boring and bland.
Bars: Roof bar could get chilly in the winter evening, not so well stocked as the basement bar, so sometime had to wait for the Barman to run down stairs and restock. Basement bar, not well lit, so seemed a little dingy and if people were smoking it wasn't so nice from my point of view being a non smoker, but that is just a personal preference
Location: Being so close to the main road and centre of Naama then you are always likely to get noise from the road it is amost directly in the flightpath to the airport as well. None of this particularly bothered me, but if you do not like the noise of cars, horns and planes, then this might not be the right hotel for you.
Beach: Have to travel 10 minutes by bus to get to the beach and they only go at 9.30 and 10.30 in the morning, after that you have to wait until the afternoon. Beach is right next to the main road, so again traffic noise (again this did not bother me, nor the bus times, but could be a problem for those who like to lay in)
Pool: bloody freezing
Note to people looking at some of the photos posted here, especially the ones showing rubbish, it seem people have gone out of their way to try and associate the Ramada Plaza with rubbish and filth, where the fact of the matter is, they have picked long shots from some back streets and views to other buildings, nothing that the hotel can be blamed for, if you don't like rubbish left in back alleys or dumped around the back of buildings then don't travel to Egypt, in fact don't travel full stop come to think about it, I don't think I have ever travelled to Utopia
One major annoyance was the inhouse beauty treatment and tattoo service who didn't seem to want to take no for an answer, even after making a booking with them. Personally I do not think it should be allowed in a hotel, but i guess this is how it works in Egypt, so expect to get asked if you want a massage/threading /tattoo about 4 or 5 times a day. That said once evntually they knew you didn't want anything (after about 5 days) they would just come around for a chat.
Naama Bay itself, busy at night, gets very tiresome saying no to Taxi drivers and shop owners and bar restaurant owners, but I guess you know you are going to get that. The inssesent lovely jubbly, Asda price starts of as an amusement but quickly changes to damn right annoyance. After 5 days of saying no, eventually we became rude and blanked them, pretending we spoke another language that they didn't, it seemed to work as we got less and less hassle as the 10 days went on.
Restaurants in Naama Bay
Highly recommended Little Buddah, absolutley fantastic food, Fairuz the Lebanese restaurant was pretty good as well
Not recommended Hard Rock Cafe (I Wouldn't normally go to a place like this anyway), can't even cook the most basic of steak properly. Zaza, good views so go for a drink, food, so so and they even try and get you to pay for the toilet, which is a giveme in a lot of places, but not restaurants and bars in Naama bay.
Be careful with the companies you choose for excursions, one company (Fayed Travel) tried to steal my mates coat, then when realised he had been found out wanted to trade it for a £10 DVD of our star gazing camel ride trip. Same company trip to the coloured Canyon and Jeep safari turned up with a jeep, with seat facing inwards, six of us got on, which was okay, then they proceeded to stop at another hotel and get another 4 on. Advice, do not do anything that has Jeep safari, they try and pack you in, drive you for 2 hours up the road, then take you of road, it would not have been an excursion, it would have been hell. Myself and my other half got out along with 4 germans and played merry hell with them and decided not to go, my two other mates decided to go on, as at this point there were only 4 people left on the Jeep, so they may give better detail of the actual trip when they leave a review. But be very careful, it is all about the Money with Fayed Travel, they will try and get as many people on the excursion as possible without the facilites to make it an enjoyable experience. May advice steer well clear of Fayed Travel.
Overall opinion: I would definately go back to Sharm/Naama bay again, I would be happy to stay in the Ramada Plaza, I would also go AI, for the price I paid, £340 including flights and a one way transfer, for 10 days, enables you to eat out at night while getting the benefit of breakfast and okay lunch and drinks until 11pm. I would suggest people look at the price they are paying for a hotel, and make a decision based on that. In this life you get what you pay for generaly, so in that respect Ramada Plaza for £340 AI, with flights, with one way transfer is an amazing bargain, and was way better than expect from the reviews I have read here.
If you want 5 star luxury you will not get it, but if you want 5 star luxury then I would reccomend going with the big 5 star branded hotels and paying out your £1500 - £2000 prices, if you are trying to do 4 star 5 star on a budget, then you should be asking yourswelf why, 4 and 5 star by their very nature are not budget holidays.
Anyway I hope this review helps some people out there. And my scores are based on the price I paid, not comapred to 5 star Luxury hotels.
