I love hotels with chalet-style rooms, so I was very excited to pull up at the Daniela Village just as the sun was setting over the Sinai mountains. The location was beautiful, and the simplicity of the hotel complimented the barren landscape perfectly. It was colder up in the mountains than in Cairo where we had been previously, but we were given a warm reception, and were soon sitting down to a welcome buffet meal, where everyone could find something they liked. Me? I liked everything!
Like most of the tour groups using this hotel, we were here for one reason: to watch the sunrise from the top of Mount Sinai. Not only were we up at 1am, but so were the hotel staff, who laid on coffee for us before we left. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't get any sleep before our early start, but due to the quiet location, and perhaps the fresh mountain air, I didn't have any problems dozing off. Some of our group had issues with mosquitoes in the room, but we used the nets provided and didn't get bitten. The only visitor we did have was a mouse, but this was not due to any uncleanliness on the part of the hotel (our room was spotless); we were just that bit closer to nature. And once he was shooed out, he did not come back.
The Mount Sinai climb was spectacular, and well worth the early start. The hotel was well geared up for this and happily arranged meals, etc. around our slightly loopy schedule.
The Daniela was probably my favourite of all the hotels we stayed in on our tour, for the location and for the attitude of the friendly staff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.
