“nothing impressive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

The rooms were really poor and parlour, the only wonderful thing is that our bathroom was cleaned well daily, unfortunately, can`t say the same about the rest of the room, the floor was dirty and sandy. Swimming pool and beach area are wonderful, the staff is really attentive there - nothing to complain on. But restaurant food sometimes seemed dangerous to eat. During 8 days of stay we`ve not eaten anything delicious at all, except some sweet things. It may be convenient and acceptable for big groups of young people who do not care and have fun in spite of everything, but do not wait smth fantastic. The staff at the reception is not polite at all. Can advise massage at the spa-center, really good, relaxing and not so expensive. There`s nothing at all out of the area of the hotel! Not joking: NOTHING! 2 or 3 souvenir shops and desert around! Couple or Solo trips are excluded, be sure! All in all, it`s a variant of visiting Egypt if you`d like to enjoy just sun and sea (may be that`s the reason of naming "Sol y Mar"?), but you will not have a real impression of Egypt as it should be by this hotel. Rather nice, but will not visit it again.

Room Tip: Family rooms with terrace.

“4 stars are misleading”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Hotel does not deserve 4 stars (even in the country with 7 stars hotels). Swimming pool was open only from 8am to 6pm. Bottom of the swimming pool was partially covered with mould or fungus. Rooms and restaurant are worn out and not very elegant (table cloths in restaurant were creased). Food was tasty but rather made from cheap meat. No glasses for water or juice (plastic). Poor selection of fruit: melon every day, watermelon once. Service at the reception was good.

“worst Egypt experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

this 4* hotel shoud be rated max 1,5*!!! (I have travelled to Egypt now 8 times and can compare between different egyptian hotel standards), if you expect a 1* sevice you will be happy, but if you expect a 4* service please do not go!
-"main bulding" must be well over 30 years old, and yes, one can feel the maturity (same goes for the furniture)
-if you will be happy enough to get a room on 3rd or 4th floor you will have a see view, but unfortunalelly overlooking some very noisy generator from the nearby holiday inn
-we had to ask everyday for maintance as water in the shower was dripping rather than running
-beach is sandy, but to be able to enjoy sunchair one has to "reserve" a night before (wonderful german/russian custom, not only specific to this hotel)
-food ok, but service and cleningness of the restaurant very very poor
-there is a tennis court in front of the main bulding, but be careful of the potholes
-every staff is speaking to you in russian...(guess its ok for russians, and yes, they are majority in the hotel
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK

“Excellent Staff and Beautiful Beach, But …”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

No doughy that the staff of this hotel is doing its best, where its part can be of help. The problems there are related to the mentality of owners. Where the hotel is full of guests all over the year, the owners are investing the minimum to improve the hotel situation.

- Bungalows are in need of serious improvement, including the need for changing the air-conditioners to give the guests a chance to sleep, instead of the disturbing existing ones.

- Sanitary sewers are in need of serious work to prevent completely the bad smell, which contradicts the beauty of the place and the travel goals the guests are looking for.

- The products used in cooking, in particular meet and fish are of the lowest quality. Among others, the guests have got a chance to see whole fishes in front of the barbecue. It was a chock to them to see fishes of frozen origins! This gave them to wonder: how a hotel on the sea shore can use such product in providing the so-called 'All Inclusive'. Here to remark that no one had asked the barbecue-man to grill a fish for him or her. We do hope that this message had been received by the hotel owners.

This is part of the problems of 'All Inclusive'-program for most of the Egyptian Hotels, and these hotels must learn that in the long run this can effect negatively on the tourism in Egypt.

In general there is a need to understand tourism industry better. Maintenance is in fact the real investment: To get money more, you also need to spend money more. Also Egyptians have to work more to keep the treasures of the Red Sea, among others throwing rubbish to the sea must be stopped completely. Egypt and all of its treasures are important to everybody and every culture and not only Egypt and Egyptians.

“Rude staff. Bare minimum service. Not coming back!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2010

The only thing I liked about the hotel was the beach. I didn't like loud music echoeing from kid's club. Majority of residents were German, so no entertainment for you in the evenings if you don't speak German. Though entertainment was lame.
I had a few arguments with the staff. If you are German or EU citizen you get a much better service than russians get. I guess that's Russians' fault too as they let the hotel staff treat them like that. I was treated real bad when I wanted to make a complaint, but once i told them that I hold two passports and one of them is EU one their attitude changed dramatically.
I wont be coming back for sure.
