“Follow-Up Review After Second Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

My better half and I stayed here in May 2011 - I reviewed the hotel after that stay. We really did like the hotel and consequently stayed there again between 25th November and 9th December 2011.

I'll try not to repeat my earlier review - apologies if I fail.

Arrival at Hurgada airport was slightly chaotic. We'd arranged a transfer beforehand but finding the agent and then the driver was not as easy as it should have been. Also, some itinerant grabbed one of my cases and indicated I should follow him to our transport. He'd no idea, simply after a tip.

Arrival at the hotel was great however. Sat down in reception less than 3 minutes before a waiter appeared asking what we'd like to drink. As we were on the "all-inclusive" package (I believe everybody is) we had a wide selection of drinks available to us including wines and spirits - but only "house" wine and local spirits. To be honest, my wife thought the white was not as palatable as that offered in May - I disagreed.

When we walked to our room (you are generally escorted there by a reception staffer) our cases were already waiting for us.

Everything I posted in my May review remains the same. Service, attention to detail, staff friendliness. There were some differences however:

Far fewer Russian guests this time. We were informed that they tend to opt for other hotels in the area rather than the Makadi Beach. Unsure why but certainly not complaining.

As before, not too many Brits. I guess we were a select bunch of eight compared to several hundred German guests. In our first week we were told there were 700 staying at the hotel and it was "quite full". The second week and it reduced to 300-400. I did notice the decline in numbers but during the first week we'd NO problem whatsoever in securing a sun lounger in our perfect position. So don't be worried by the supposed "crowds". Most Germans prefer the beach and that never seemed crowded either.

The weather, whilst cloudless for 13 of the 14 days is not as warm in Nov as May. The sun rose at about 7am, cleared the outlying buildings by 8am and was warm enough to sit out by the poolside at 8:30am

It was quite hot between 11am and 3pm but not to the point that I'd need shade. The late afternoon can be cool after the heat of the day and by 4:15pm the sun was setting behind the main reception buildings. A perfect time to take a dip in the upper pool next to the poolside bar. This upper pool is heated (30c max but generally about 27-28), the lower pool is freezing at this time of year.

There's a "dull" time between 5pm and about 6:30pm. There's a flat-screen t.v. in the room but limited English-speaking channels. BBC World, Aljazeera (best for news - not as biased as BBC and more informative and certainly less jingles and self-advertising - bet your act together BBC - rant-over). One movie channel provided wall to wall movies in English but sadly, often at times not best suited to our evening dining.

We purchased the internet connection package - 3 days for $48 with 3 more days free. So quite expensive. It was "down" quite often so after three days I complained and the hotel simply wiped the charge and took back the password card. Whilst I applaud their service approach it would have been better to have internet access.

The gardens were as spectacular as May. Still colours galore and Hamdi's topiary is worthy of a place at the Chelsea flower show. As ever, he's prepared to take the time to show you his work - the guy epitomises the Egyptian friendliness.

Food quality was extremely high and the main buffet choice exceptional. I would however have appreciated a variation of the offerings at the poolside "Terrasina" lunchtime restaurant and the beach-side lunch and dinner venue. Same menu as May and unchanging over a two week period. That said, we never ate in the same location more than twice in a row.

To summarise, this is an ideal location for the weather even in late November and early December. Having looked at the nearby hotels and talked to some guests who have been to other hotels in addition to the Makadi Beach I am more convinced this is the best of the bunch. We will undoubtedly return to this hotel.

Room Tip: We like blocks 7, 8 and 9 as they are further from the pool area - hence quiet, with a possibility o...

“Want a relaxing getaway?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Just returned from a 10 night break at the Iberotel Makadi Beach Hotel, with my husband, what can I say? We are a 'young' couple in our 50's and I have to say I was a little worried that the hotel is not particularly frequented by the Brits, but do not let this put you off, we were made very welcome, in fact the staff genuinely seemed pleased when they realised we were Brits and although on the whole the guests were German and Dutch many of the staff speak some English and we were always understood. So if you want a medium sized, very clean, well maintained, and very well run hotel with good food, extremely, and I really mean extremely attentive staff, interesting gardens, nice pool and beach area I think you will struggle to do better. We were most impressed by the very high level of personal attention we received from booking in on arrival, the direction to the door of our room, with a guided tour of the facilities on the way by a front of house manager, to the daily enquires from the customer relations people to ensure everything was satisfactory, room attendants checked regularly that we were happy with our room, in fact the one to one attention from all the staff we had contact with was excellent. Full marks to all the pleasant helpful staff from the brilliant lobby bar crew to the beach arabesque and pool restaurant teams (an inteactive bunch who appeared in various locations at different times of the day, these guys work long long hours!!) Having travelled extensively this is the best and most personal service we have ever received. Tips are VERY well received, its up to you obviously but we felt tips were very well deserved and large amounts are not necessary, a couple of pounds here and there are gratefully received but never felt they were expected. The beach restaurant was very good day and night, and had best steak in ages at the pool at lunch. My personal view is that this is an excellent hotel for a relaxing break The 'entertainment' is very low key, not the hotels best feature. I think the hotel is more suited to a mature customer, there is a kids club and there were some families but the majority were mature couples. Could go on forever but this hotel is really good value for money, a relaxing hotel I will certainly return to..

“Great food, great service, great beach, great holiday!”

We had a really fantastic holiday at this hotel. The food was out of this world with the kitchen and serving staff being almost perfect. We had a sea view large family room, which was good though in the evening a little noisy as it was near the beach bar. The hotel swimming pools were good. There was a heated pool which was often heated to 36C! (ouch), whilst the non-heated was typically around 23/24C. Sunbathing facilities around the pool were very pleasant and not too noisy. We did experience several incidents of the reception staff being uninformed about what is happening in the hotel and communication issues between reception and the rest of the hotel.

The hotel was mostly occupied by Germans, Russian and some French. I assume it depends on what time of year you go though.

The beach is superb, the samd lovely and the sea a beautiful deep blue and crystal clear water. We will certainly come again and can certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Don't choose a room facing the pools. Will be too noisy in the evening as that is where the main...

“Very good Hotel - perfect stay”

What we liked:
+ quiet situation
+ nice beach, enough place for everyone
+ housereef, snorkeling nice and safe, best on the sea side (beach side is too sandy)
+ service : always friendly, helpful and quick
+ food (we tried the main restaurant and the beach restaurant)
+ animation (we played mainly beach volley)
+ kids liked the pool
+ free laundry (AllIncl.)

What we didn't like so much :
- Internet could be more reliable and free (AllIncl) for the whole stay (instead of a free 1/2 hour/person). I think this should be the standard in modern hotels.

Misc.:
* Relaxing on the beach is ok, but it is true, that there are some disturbances (offers for tours, camel rides, beauty salon etc.).
* Snorkeling tour is generally ok, but the so called 'Paradise Beach' isn't worth it.
* 1-day trip to Louxor is tiring but it's a must!

“Iberotel Makadi Beach”

We have just returned having spent the lat week of October and first week of November at Madadi Beach. It really was wonderful. The staff can not do enough to ensure your stay is thoroughly enjoyable. The food is excellent, the waiters were great fun and very attentive, the second night we arrived at the resturant they had rembered our 10 year old daughter's name, what she and we liked to drink and so it continued for the whole holiday, they are amazing, their attention to detail is outstanding in every way. The same applied in the bars, by the pool and on the beach. No one was looking for tips! The all inclusive package is exactly that, there are no hidden extras. The beach was about 100m from our room. There were plently of sun beds and umberellas at the beach and pool. The heated pool was like a warm bath! Our room was spacious with a very large shower room and balcony, the all inclusive mini bar was stocked every morning and again in the eveinings. The laundry service was brilliant, clothes taken in the morning and returned in the evening.
We went riding with the sea horse club-can be booked through Sam on the beach, excellent value for money and cater for thoes who have never sat on a horse to those who know what they are doing - we went twice. If you want a quite relaxing holiday with no hastle and really nice friendly staff then we thoroughly recommend the Makadi Beach.
