We arrived at The Grand and was shown to our suite which we really couldn't fault it was stunning plenty of room for my husband and myself, the bed was huge, and very comfortable, large bathroom equipped with hair dryer ( which was handy as I forgot mine) beach towels provided every day. The only negative I could say was that, all tv channels bar one was in German. O and the minibar... The drinks that were in the minibar were a year out of date!! When we asked for fresh drinks to be replaced the hotel refused!
The pools and grounds were amazing, the beach equally amazing!
We visited the Italian restaurant but wasn't keen the food wasn't real Italian, I ordered mushroom risotto and got boiled rice with mushrooms on top! And their portion control is very controlled, my husband and I found that some of the staff in the Italian restaurant were quite rude and favoured the Germans over the English and made this very noticeable.
The international buffet restaurant food was ok edible at least until I found a huge cooked caterpillar in my broccoli which slightly put me off! The majority of the food catered for the Germans, and the restaurant had German corners but no English corners! The majority of the staff spoke in German and very little English and presumed every one was German.
We don't have children but started to chat to a family who told us that their kids couldnt join in the entertainment as it was all in German!! Although the evening entertainment was ok.
We went to Luxor for the day £75 per adult and was an amazing experience, very long day set off at 5.45am and didn't arrive back at the hotel until 10pm , but well worth it! Just be warned on every stop that the coach makes there are Egyptians waiting for you begging for money, you just can't get away from it, out of the 32 people on the trip my husband and I were the only English so had our own tour guide, he seemed to let the Egyptians know that we were english and we were just hounded, which slightly spoilt it for us and we both felt quite intimidated and at times put in very frightening situations, our tour guide never intervened and told us he couldn't as he does the trip daily and couldn't lose face to the Egyptians!!! Just be very prepared on the trips keep your money very safe and don't give in to the beggars ( sounds harsh I know, but if you do go on the trips, you will understand) if you do want to go on the trips, pay by English money we paid by Egyptian money and instead of paying £150 we ended up paying £180, when we realised this we had a word with the rep and he reluctantly gave us the £30 back!!! ( the exchange rate was 8.8 to the pound but the rep rounded it off to 10 eygyptian pounds to the uk pound, which is quite clearly wrong and did it to everyone but when we spoke to him about it he was very shocked and paid us back out of his own money!!! Which kinda told us something his name incidentally was Con, ha ha which was a little ironic!!! So becareful!!!!!
The hotel was predominantly for the Germans and we did feel outcast and definetly the minority, ( the Germans are very rude once they know your English, and will push into you jump queue in front of you etc.... Very rude, no manners and seem to carry a chip on their shoulder, which is very sad to see!!!!
We did have a fab holiday and it was a great experience, the hotel as I mentioned earlier was stunning, the beach stunning and the coral omg amazing!!!!
Would I go back......???????
