“Didn't stay here but used the facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We actually stayed at The Mamlouk Palace next door but because of the building work on the pool used the facilites of Garden Beach, we were able to use our all inclusive here as well.

Everywhere was lovely and clean, well maintained, we actually preferred the restaurant at The Mamlouk but that was more to do with the staff who we felt were our friends rather than waiters etc....

gardens were delightful and beach joined on to The Mamlouk, it gave the feeling of living in a little village rather than a hotel.

would recommend and would return to either hotel.

“Lovely Staff, OK rooms, shame about the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed at the Sunrise Garden after going through countless reviews trying to find a hotel in Egypt (only local destination warm enough for Winter Sun) that could cater for people who do not eat beef or fish. Reviews made us pick this hotel.
We used the transfer service from the hotel and apart from someone else taking our baggage at one of the earlier transfer stops by accident.
Our room was ready and we were taken to our room by the hotel staff. Our room was nice with two double beds, a maintenance employee came to our room shortly after entering and moved the two beds together for us to make it a super huge bed, given that Egypt does not have a smoking law, the room sofa smelt of used fags but apart from that the room was lovely.

The complex we were in was also nice in terms of looks and things were maintained which was a positive. The two pools however, although one being heated were icy cold.
The beach was nice and clean apart from a few cigarette butts that had been thrown by smokers.

One big issue we found was the food. The restaurants were nice and the people exceptional, making me, my wife and my daughter feel welcome but when it came to looking for food, if you did not eat beef or fish you had a very limited amount of food to eat. Unfortunately it felt as though the resort was catering for its Russian guests and no one else. This I thought was interesting because from the looks of it, these guests treated the staff the worst out of all the people staying at the resort. On top of that these guests also did not have any concept of "I was here first", just pushing in to the line of people waiting to get food.
Unfortunately all the entertainment seemed to be again catered for the Russian guest and if you did not speak the language, your children missed out.

Room Tip: Not for vegetarians

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We have just returned after 14 nights at this hotel after reading the reviews prior to booking we were confident of another good Egyptian holiday, this was our fourth visit, our arrival gave us no reason to think otherwise in true Egyptian fashion the lobby and reception were spotless the staff on the reception were as usual polite and very helpful our rooms clean with tea and coffee making facilities and a mini bar the gardens and beach area are the best we have seen in Egypt so we had no reason to think that this holiday was going to be any different from any other we have spent in Egypt.

We soon realised that the hotel catered for mainly for Russian and German guests and the meals reflected this, breakfast consisted of cereals, omlettes fried or boiled eggs, beef sausage, salad and fruit so i was very suprised to see chilli con carne, mashed potato and rice pudding at breakfast, lunch and evening mirrored each other a plenty salad and fruit a carvery stuffed chicken roll or beef shank, battered fish strips which tasted of curry, steamed veg which after a while in the bay maries turned into a mushy mess and STEW if it was the Mexican theme night it was Mexican beef if was Asian theme night it Asian beef etc etc i dont want to see another bowl of stew as long as i live.

The main drinking area is the lobby bar and the service is best described as slow at busy times you could wait up to 10/15 minutes for a drink and one occasion we waited over 20 minutes you cannot go to the bar and get served you have to wait for a waiter and this is were the problem lies there are not enough staff dispensing the drinks also Egypt is having its coldest winter for 20 years so when the air con comes at 9pm blowing cold air i have never seen so many people sat in overcoats, fleeces and pullovers complaints were made and all received the same answer it was on a timer and could not be turned off,it is my view that along with the slow service is a management ploy to stop you drinking so much.

There is entertainment but it's held in a tent with no bar we suffered it for 15 mins until we decided it was warmer in the lobby bar.

There are no toilets around the pools so you either have to walk to the lobby bar or to the beach area which could be very embarasssing if you have the pharoahs revenge.

We were told that we could use the facilities at the sister hotel next door which we tried but the pool areas and boiler room are having major refurb so it resembled a building site.

The only reason i have given it a average rating is because of the gardens and cleanliness without this it would struggle to make 2 star plus

Room Tip: pool areas are less windy than sea-views and closer to amenities

“A pleasant surprise”

Service in the hotel was excellent and the rooms were clean and well serviced. Food was fine although not outstanding. If the hotel had been ful it would have been difficult to get a table at meal times and it would be good if guests could be shown to a table. Otherwise I would recommend the hotel
