Large hotel which is split around the two main pools, neither of which were heated. One of the areas is definitely for families, with play equipment and organised children's activities. The other is for those who like a quieter holiday. We found the hotel was very good in most respects. However, the memories we have are not so positive. There was a complete lack of female staff - we cannot recall seeing one during our stay. Every time we walked through the hotel we would see groups of two or more male members of staff just hanging around in corridors, which can be very intimidating for female tourists. As others have mentioned, they want tipping for everything and are not afraid to make their feelings known - not just concerning tips. On one occasion this was like a Fawlty Towers sketch - two staff knocked on our door on two different days and said they had a new settee for us. On the first day, they then stood around talking whilst waiting for a tip ! They didn't get one so went away then came back another day with the same story. This time they actually took the existing settee into the corridor then wanted their tip....they didn't get one so the original settee came back in !! On examination, there was nothing wrong with it and I suspect we would have got the original one back anyway !!
Evening entertainment was ok if you take it for what it is...not sure there was much life or venom in the snake act. Plenty of life in the girls dancing show though - we suggest you send the children to bed before they get too far into their show !!
Plenty of food to choose from and overall it was ok. They tended to have a number of themes so you could select different types of food. We didn't like the mass catering hall, which was huge and often overcrowded, with queues to get in, which you would not expect at a hotel of this standard. We spent most of our evenings in the smaller restaurants around the hotel, which were much more relaxing.
The weather was very good and consistent, so we spent plenty of time outdoors. If we had to spend more time within the hotel, we do not think we would have enjoyed the break so much. The surrounding area is not good, with lots of derelict buildings on the main street and groups of men just wanting to stop you and haggle / harass you so you need to get away to the main town. The hotel seems to be very popular with the Russians and North Europeans.
Apart from the weather, don't know if we would return to this hotel. Somehow they just don't seem to have got it right yet........
