We stayed at the Sol y Mar Makadi club the week before Christmas.
The hotel in itself is very well maintained, it is part of a complex of small hotels, which in fact looked pretty much the same. The gardens are beautiful and almost manicured like.
the first room we had was with seperate beds, and after a word with the reception they gave us another one, which was a bigger family room. There is 2 pools, one small warm, a a bigger unheated one. The second one was for sure deserted at this season meaning every body was packed around the small one, but still we could find lounge chair everyday.
The beach area is small, again this was no problem at this season, but I can imagine that in summer time it might be problematic to find a place there.
There are many reefs just in front of hte hotel beach, and snorkeling is very very nice. Even better is to book a day trip with the dive center of the hotel, they are very professional and friendly as to compare to the other ones around.
So everything could be quite good but considering the price we paid, but the big big problem was the food.
It was simply the worst food I ever had in a hotel, and I have benn in many hotels in Egypt and Tunisia. The food is bad period. Always the same, but more problematic is the bad quality. It was to a point that it was spoiling our evenings just to thought we would have to eat at the hotel restaurant. Just a smell into the dining room was putiong you off. It was that bad.
Another point to mention is that the staff is eating among guests, which I think is not vey professional. It is the first time I see that in a Hotel.
Clientele of the hotel is mainly Russian and German.
The animation is terrible. Loud and poor.

So will I go there again? For sure not I dont recommend this hotel to anyone, sure the gardens are beautiful, the diving was very nice but the food is just awful. There are much better altenative for the same price. For example the Jaz Club Mirabel in Sharm el Sheik is so much better and not more expensive.

Just returned from Club Makadi.
Found it to be not so big, very green (for Egypt) and family oriented.

Territory: lots of trees, very well maintained

Rooms: could be better, very basic and without any touch of design. We were staying on the ground floor and the room (Family room, building 7) was quite dark. If you want to have a good sea view be aware that it can be very noisy because sea front buildings are grouped around the pool, restaurant and animation.

Beach: good sand beach, suitable for young children playing and bathing. Not so may fishes

Food: variable enough but it will be better to have a bigger choice in Kids menu

Pools: the hotel has three medium size pools, one is heated. When we were staying no one was using the other two because the water was too cold.

Guests: the hotel is German/Russian (not so many of us :) ) with a majority of Germans. Most are families with children.

Spoken languages: German is used everywhere and some Russian. English is very basic and not all personal understands it

Animation: Germans for Germans.

Kids club: rather small and Germain-oriented. There is a Russian girl there who is taking care about Russian kids but the whole activity is in German.

All in all I can recommend this hotel for families with children, but do not expect something extraordinary.

We spent a week in Sol Y Mar Club Makadi. The hotel is big with lots of buildings. We got the room 607 which was a bit far from the beach but it was very good because we could sleep well all week, it was silent. The food was good and various. The beach is nice, the water is clear and hot. The waiters are gentle. There were a lot of animators (germans) who played with the kids all they. The hotel has a big park with wonderful vegetation. There are several shops in the hotel but those are very expensive so don't buy anything there. You can change money far from the hotel at the bank, but because of the ramadan the opening of everything was very chaotic... We had problems with the followings: there is no free wifi, but you have to pay 5 dollars for half hour. The hotel is far from the shops and from the pharmacy, you have to walk at least 1 km in the 40°C (or more) to the pharmacy or to the supermarket to buy a bottle of water. The doctor in the hotel speaks "basic" english, he didn't understand the most things we told him, and he didn't have any medicines (although we had the insurance) so we had to go to the pharmacy for it. There were a lot of germans in the hotel, who were very loud... If you want to have a sunbed at the beach, you have to go down early in the morning (around 7-8 a.m.) because everybody "reserves" all the sunbeds with a towel and after you can't have it. You can get free beach towels every day but they don't wash it so the towels are always dirty. Last day we paid $30 for the late check out and we would have had to leave the room at 6 p.m. but the luggage-porter hammered on the door at 3:30 that we have to give him all the luggages at that moment... And of course all employees expect the tip - like in every arabic country.
But all in all I can recommend this hotel because it's nice and very clean.

We were there last week, we wished our stay not to end.
The hotel located directly on the lovely Makadi beach that you can reach in few steps.
Rooms are confortable and clean. Food is very good and varied almost every day.
The animation team is vey active during the day and night.
May be some more shows needed for night entertainment.
Staff working allover the hotel is well trained doing a lot to satisfy the guests, perfect staff at reception, I'd like to send them a great thank you for all their afforts.
Another thank you for restaurant and bars staff.
I'll be expecting my next leave to return to this lovely hotel.
