We recently stayed at the Tropicana for a Martial Arts affair. The last time I was in Atlantic City, I was 17 and that was many moons ago, so I was looking forward to a whole new experience.
The opulence of the main floor was breathtaking. The marble and glitz was apparent everywhere! However, checking in was a chore, especially since it's a twenty minute hike from the parking garage. There was a line, but it moved smoothly and quickly. Every employee we talked with was cheerful & happy to help.
The opulence ended once we got to our room. Worn furniture, finishes; holes in the ceiling and cigarette burns in carpet. No hotel booklet for room service or amenities. A refrigerator that didn't work. . . .I didn't complain as we were getting a "special rate" for being part of the Martial Art conference. But I would have never paid full price for this room.
The Martial Arts Conference & trade show was great. The Hall of Fame Banquet, although a little long, was great--food was outstanding. Breakfast at the buffet style restaurant on the first floor was very good, and with a great view of the boardwalk.
