Came here with a group of friends, one night during Labor Day weekend 2011. As expected, the going rate for rooms at the casinos was anywhere from 400-500 dollars - not very budget friendly. After scouring through Tripadvisor reviews and various travel websites, we elected to stay at this Best Western for about $200 (taxes inc, special Automotive Association rate).
Outside:
The hotel has a couple of parking lots (some covered, some outdoors), and parking is included with the hotel stay. The lobby is fairly small, but clean. I noticed a computer in the lobby that seemed to be for guests' usage, although I did not use it.
I noticed some reviews stating that it is in a "run -down" section of the town. As someone who has been to Atlantic City many times, I can attest that it is not in a "run down" section (for proof, travel a few blocks west of the Boardwalk to see what the actual "run down" sections are). The hotel is a few blocks from both Bally's and Trump Taj (right in the middle of them), and while the immediate surroundings aren't luxurious (it's about average for Atlantic City), it's not in a crime ridden block either.
Inside
Check-in was a breeze. The room itself was fairly large; good enough for 4 people. Beds were clean and comfortable, and the AC unit was placed into the wall by the window. Our room was on the 4th floor and faced the parking lot closest to Pacific Ave. No problems at all regarding noise either from the street or from other rooms.
Bathroom was not huge but it was clean and not cramped. Good water pressure from the shower and toilet. Standard toiletries were available, as was a hair dryer.
Fairly large fridge and microwave (and coffee maker, but who ever uses those?) was also found in the room, which was a nice touch since many rooms don't even have fridges.
High def TV (didn't measure it, but probably 27" or so) was also in the room with basic cable. Many different channels were available (no premium ones though).
One minor blemish was the room's main lamp; it hung (almost dangerously) low from the ceiling, maybe about 5-6 feet from the ground, and one of the members in our party hit his head as it was very close to the bed.
Other:
The hotel was a short 5 min walk to the Boardwalk (very close to the go karts, paintball, etc.), which makes it convenient if you're traveling with kids. The 7-11 is directly across the street and is open 24 hours should you need a late night snack or drink mixer. There was a fitness center on the 2nd floor which we did not check out.
We stayed on a nonsmoking floor, but if you walk by the smoking floors you will notice a very "distinct" odor permeating from the rooms. It is advisable to stay on a non-smoking floor to avoid any problems related to this.
Summary:
Excellent value for a weekend stay. The going rate seems to be less than half of what the casinos charge. It is right on the main road in Atlantic City, so you can catch a cab or jitney pretty easily.
Room Tip: Stick with a non-smoking room
