“Needs extreme updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Although the beds are very comfortable and the rooms are pretty clean, they are very run-down and outdated. The furniture, shelving and cabinets have all been neglected and need to be replaced. Our sofa was stained and the upholstery was torn. We could hardly open and close our balcony door and it banged and whistled all night with the wind. Closet doors did not open and close right. Dust and grime had built up for a time in the crevices of the closets and cabinets. Rust in bathroom and not enough hooks to hang wet towels/clothing. The hot water only works part of the day, and even when it is scheduled to be working, it doesn't always. Then you can only have it scalding or cool. The a/c works but the thermostat did not. We had to keep turning it on and off as we'd get too warm or too cool. The beach at the hotel is very small and the sand bags for erosion are not very attractive. The pool is nice, but too deep for young children to touch the bottom, so they get bored quickly. Service was good. Lobby area is pretty. Breakfast buffet was ok, but not spectacular. I would not recommend staying on the fourth floor as the gym is VERY loud! Although the ocean is beautiful, the beaches on San Andres leave a lot to be desired - littered with trash and there are lots of stray and neglected dogs, which is very sad (this was not the case at the Sunrise, but the beach there is too small and water is not so pretty). There are some really good local restaurants including La Regatta and El Gourmet Assho. Renting the golf carts to drive around the island is fun. I would not return to this island considering the expense to get there. There are many other Carribean destinations that are much nicer with cleaner beaches for the price (Mexican Riviera, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, etc.). This island has a LOT of potential though. Unfortunately we were unable to visit "el aquario" and "Johnny Cay" due to high tides all week. I'm sure that would have been really nice.

Room Tip: Fourth floor has a loud gym!

Yours sincerely on behalf of all staff that makes up the hotel GHL Sunrise. We thank you for having taken the time to evaluate your stay with us and your comments or suggestions, contribute to the continuous improvement of our service. Indeed as noted by the Hotel You require a large investment in infrastructure, an issue that is already reflected in a remodeling project and we hope you will enjoy it a future, a situation that would be very grateful for the company. On behalf of the organization's policies, I offer my sincerest apologies.

“Nightmare”

If you travel to San Andres on vacation, check the hotel don´t have tours of high school students. My nights at the Hotel Sunrise were a real hell, becouse drunken teenagers where shouting in the corridors of rooms, hit the doors very strong, and put loud music during the three nights I spent there. The hotel had no control over what happens, and did not respond to our requests for change of room.

“Not as bad as some of the previous reviews had made it seem....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

Choosing a hotel in San Andres wasn't easy but after doing a little research i contacted my family in Colombia and they where able to get me a promotional packet for 5days/4nights for $620.000 ($335USD) with taxes included but without meals for 4people. I took the offer because the Decamaron hotels which are all inclusive where charging $240USD per night. The only drawback of the promotional packet was that you had to listen to a 45minute time share by a salesman but all you have to say is no your not interested and they actually give you a certificate for a 3day/2nights at a hotel in Colombia,Panama,Ecuador or Peru. You will see the time share salesman everytime time you enter or leave the hotel it gets a little annoying after a while.

The hotel location is perfect because it's really close to el Centro of San Andres. My room had a seaview balcony but it was a little outdated more like early 90's feeling but i guess waking up to ocean view was worth it. My biggest complaint would have to be the bathroom starting with the toilet barely has any pressure, the bathtub paint is starting to peel as well as in the walls and ceiling in the bathroom i would highly suggest management to fix the problem immeaditely before they get out of hand.

The hotel has a nice big pool and a small beach since i went in March (low season) it was pretty empty which i really enjoyed. The hotels gym is actually a real gym not like most other hotels which advertise a gym and all they have is a treadmill and a couple of stationary bikes. The hotels nightclub is Blue Deep and it's actually the best spot for nightlife in the island even though we went on a friday night and it was pretty empty mostly tourists and hardly any locals. Since our plan didn't include meals we only ate at the restaurant one morning using our one meal voucher the breakfest was good lots of variety. Overall i would recommend this hotel to families and couples, the hotel is not perfect but is not as bad as some other reviews in the past had made it seem. Just for your info there's no 5star hotel in San Andres

“Lousy service, cheap drinks and a platoon of angry time share sellers in front of a beautiful sea”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

No service. Really. People seems bothered if you ask for something.
An insistent band of people offering "the deal of your life" in 30 mins. If you say no, they don't even say bye.

The sea and climate (fine permanent breeze) is perfect.
