This review is a little late in coming..my apologies. My daughter and I spent a lovely weekend at the Noble House on San Andres recently. I had stayed there before and like anything else in Latin America there are certain adjustments that must be made. The reviews that say" this isn't the Holiday Inn" are dead right. If you want the Holiday Inn, then go find it. There is no Holiday Inn on the island and there must be a reason. It is probably quite difficult to keep a business running as consistent as the Noble House is run on an island in Latin America. Island-Latin America..that is known as a double whammy where I come from. The ability to find quality and honest labor is monumental. The ability to provide quality amenities in on an island with limited infrastructure is another. But, somehow the Noble House does just fine. You will find on the island that the pace of life is slower except on the frenetic street in front of the hotel. It is a main thoroughfare and like anywhere in Latin America there is little in the way of traffic engineering and so traffic is the order of the day...and night. So, remember, you don't want a room by the street. The rooms are simple..sparsely decorated yet clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are clean. Cleaning goes on constantly and that's a normal activity to see when you are in the better places in Latin America. Remember, you choose this hotel because of its proximity to the beach and the shopping district and the fact that it is lower in cost than its beach counterparts. It's a mere block and a half from the beach..an easy walk.
In Latin America in general and where I live, in Panama in particular, customer service is always an issue. In Panama it is nearly non-existent in almost every consumer activity. So, when after a while, one is quite sensitive to good customer service. The Noble House is consistent. Great service, period. If you need something they will do their best to get it. Need a recommendation for a inexpensive restaurant where the locals go? The desk is there to help with names and directions. Forgot to change money at the airport? They'll point you to the best bank and the procedures. An island hotel is only as good as their service. All the hotels on San Andres have issues..all of them. The question is..where will you spend most of your time..on the beach or in your hotel room and how much are you willing to pay for your issues?
The breakfast at the Noble House is consistent..fruit, meat, eggs, bread, juice, coffee...it could get a bit monotonous if you were there for a week..but, I found that if you wanted to change up your egg order or ask for something different in the morning, just give the ladies there some notice and they'll do whatever it takes to help you. You won''t get that at the Holiday Inn. Clean, comfortable, always consistent personal service, good breakfast and good value for the money. Since the dollar tanked in regards to the peso, prices have risen all over the island..for everything..you have to be a savvy shopper..if you are then you will do as I do when I need to get away from dirty noisy traffic-jammed Panama City and take the hour flight to my not so secret getaway island of San Andres. You would do well to choose the Noble House.
