“Terrible management - hotel is claiming for RENOVATION a.s.a.p.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2010

We had a "family reunion" of 37 people, of which 35 booked at this hotel. From the entrance we were highly disappointed. Our assigned rooms and bathrooms were in a bad condition. Most of us had to switch rooms. There were a few rooms that were actually renovated. My daughters were changed twice due to the unpleasant presentation of the rooms, the furniture was falling apart, the bedspreads had gum on them and cigarette burns. The closet was dreadful, they actually never unpacked their bags. In another of our rooms the ceiling was leaking, damaging clothes and soaking the person sleeping on it.
It is very unsafe when it rains. My sister-in-law fell down due to a very slippery floor that had no warning sign, she was taken to the hospital by taxi (there was no nurse or doctor on duty). Her husband trying to help her also fell and cut her had with a broken glass.
The buffet did not have enough choices, and sometimes run out of food and utensils. But the worse, were the bugs... not only mosquitoes but roaches and ants walking on the tables and all over the food.
The beach is away from the premises. A shuttle will take you there, most of the time we could not find towels for the pool or beach. Very few and unhealth snacks were offered. The bars were not running all the time. There are small refrigerators in the rooms but they charge for every item as well as for the safe. I don't thing this should be called an "ALL INCLUSIVE" hotel, with no activities. No game room. When it rains, there is nothing to do. Just watch TV. Fortunatelly for the World Cup, that kept us entertained.
We spoke to a manager that was never around with a nice and smily face, but no solutions! The only person that really try to help us with the rooms was the head of housekeeping named Aurora. She was embarrased and did her best to switch our rooms and get us towels.
Over all, this was a frustrating experience while we tried to have a good time, considering that all members of the family had to travel from different places, such as Miami, New York, Maryland, Virginia, etc. to meet is such a place.!
I wonder if the Solar Corporation is aware of the poor condition of this place, which is screaming for a total renovation, better food and beverage, and bugs-free dining and gardens!!! all is open air, no AC or fans in the dining or reception areas.
The ONLY attraction is the view of the beautiful ocean that doesn't match at all with the hotel premises.

We only like the view from the hotel to the beach and some hotel staff who made our stay a little better.
The hotel is far away from a resort because they says that has 3 restaurant but during our stay only one was open was open and for snacks' afternoon every day at 4pm was only served hot dogs, besides the confusion that the hotel, all is far .. ou conclusion is for the service given the price is so high. We do not recommend.

“Very nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2009

The place is very nice, a good relationship between price and service. Not that amazing, very familiar, very friendly people, relax and nature all over, the view is amazing, the closer beach 10 minutes by walking, they offer each 30 minutes a bus to get you to the beach, which is not one of the best, but there is also very nice and there is a small Cay close to the beach, that you can reach by walking through the water 250 meters. The services are pretty good, you can get your meals in the beach, or in the restaurants. The hotel itself, is good enough to spend few days, and you can use also the services from Sol Caribe Centro, in case of you would like to be closer to the best beaches and city center, shops, disco, etc, you should choose the other one from the same Hotel-line, Sol Caribe Centro, which is more modern than the first one. Anyway Sol Caribe Campo is a good option.

“Special Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2008

The Hotel was good, the food too, many activities around the island and the beach. The hotel beach zone is about three hundred meters from the hotel. Even though there were buses to the beach each hour, sometimes you have to wait the next one becouse more people from the capacitie of the bus were there.

Italian food, meat and tipical food were good, you can separate a day before from two of them.

Workers at the hotel, very helpful too. I found my bedroom two times not made, but it was done inmediately we called to the reception.

Activities at the beach were good too. At night they have activities at the hotel too.

You must see the atractions of the island, and visit the cayes.

My wife and I are planning to return as soon as we can.

“Very bad service, the only good thing: the view”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2008

I went the first time in 1996 and it was amazing and came back on january 2008 thinking it was the same but I realized that "Melia group" sold the hotel to a Colombian company and the quality went from Very good to terrible. The crew does not know how to prepare the coctails, they were asking me what licor should go in the coctails we were asking for. They serve them in paper cups and if you dont drink it quickly it taste like paper. Before they had a buffet with a lot of thiings to choose, now it is a small table with 5 selections and one of them is chick peas (garbanzos)........
They close the bar-disco they used to have so there is not a place where you can dance. The shows are terrible, without preparation or interest. They dont open the bars at the time they are supposed to, and a lot of times we had to wait to be served because the crew were inside the room behind the bar watching soap operas. When it rains the light goes off and you see the crews walking with the big umbrellas while you have to wait for the light to come on in order to go to your room. The pool is closed at 8, all the games are close at 6, so after 6 pm you have nothing to do.

I am colombian and it is very sad that this hotel is charging more than any hotel in the island when the service is so bad.
