“NICE LOCATION, BUT......”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last Summer (2010). We liked the location of the hotel, in front of a nice beach, very closed to downtown and the harbor. We booked a room with a balcony with view to the sea, if you are not used to hear people partying at midnight ( which is understandable for being in such beautiful place) I would recommend a room in the rear of the building or another hotel far down the beach. Otherwise, you'll be disturbed with people partying until 3:00 in the morning. The staff at the desk are not helpful and kind, except for "Maria" one of the receptionist who was a sweetheart. They also don't speak English very well. Therefore, it's better for you to learn some Spanish. The service at the kitchen was good. Ask for "Jose" if you wanna know what to do or what places to visit around the island, he'd point you in the right direction & get good deals in tickets' prices for you. Unfortunately, there are some blackouts at certain times during the day, so don't be surprise or annoyed by this. If you need to use an electric shaver, epilator or charge your cellphone, I would advise to do it the night before. Also bring a battery operated alarm o'clock. I hope this review is helpful especially for visitors that are too picky.

“Perfect Budget Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2009

This is a three-storey old hotel, with stairs (no elevator), in front of the beach. The staff is extremely nice (I must add that in Colombia everybody is very nice everywhere). San Andres does not have beaches everywhere, so the hotel location is a differencial, in front of the beach and near the commercial area. The breakfast is simple but it has the essencial, they give beachtowels, the room is clean, and it has an honest price.

“Great view, clean, but some negatives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2009

I stayed one night. The hotel seems geared to Colombian families and has a nice family atmosphere. The location is right on the beach and the ocean front rooms have stunning views. Very little English is spoken, so if you have no Spanish, there may be some difficulties. Food is basic, sort of reminded me of summer camp. The pool is small and not particularly appealing, especially since the beach is right in front of the hotel.

My first impression was negative. There was a question about my reservation and the front desk manager was not very friendly, like she was doing me a favor and would prefer if I just go somewhere else. Then she overcharged me for the room. The front desk staff warmed up and had become reasonably friendly by the time I checked out, but the negative first impression persisted.

The room was very nice and spotlessly clean. View of the ocean was just beautiful. I would not stay here if I could not get an ocean front room. Note that the first three floors have balconies, but the fourth does not. I was given a room on the fourth floor - no balcony - but was charged more than the highest rate shown on the website.

The AC was effective. There is satellite TV with a nice selection of channels and a small refridgerator/mini-bar with reasonably priced drinks and snacks.

The bed was rock-hard. I'm deducting a full point for that. It was like sleeping on the ground.

The value is good, and I would recommend the hotel, subject to the reservations noted above.
