“Portobelo (Junior) was recommended, but we were dissapointed”

A friend of us recommended this hotel so we paid it in advance with several months of anticipation.
When we got there, we noticed that the location was great but we were very dissapointed that the hotel :
- Did not have wi fi (only in the reception of the main building, one block away).
- There were no blackout in the windows and the curtains were very thin, so the light of the street entered all night long and we could not sleep well.
- Pillows were thin and bad quality. When we requested another one they said they had to take it from another room and they gave it to us only for one night.
- There was not a latch to secure the door of the room properly from the inside, so we felt unsafe.
- We know it was a cheap hotel but there was signs of negligence in many things in the room, like rust in the bedside lamp.
- The TV was very small, with bad image quality and a terrible sound. We could not use it.
- Breakfast was not bad (it had scrambled eggs, bread an arepas every morning) but the fresh fruit portions were minimal only one fruit a day and each portion was the size of a couple of spoonfuls. There was not juice from fresh fruits (which is the standard in Colombia). Only artificial orange juice every morning.
- The worse was the Conditioned Air: it did not worked since the beggining and practically we never had it. We had to sleep all nights in the heat. The "Technicians" went to our room several times to fix it but the conditionated air continued shutting off shortly after being turned on. The manager reacted as if she didn't care much about our problem, and at the end of our stay she even not asked how the air conditioner was. In general we felt that the hotel staff was very uninterested about our situation. We requested a change of the room several times, but they kept saying that the hotel was full.
- We really wanted to move to another hotel but we could not, since we had paid in advance. We will not do it again.

The lady that organized the tours seemed nice but there was a poor quality in the tours, specially the ones in the small boats, which are so disrupted!!. She never told us about the Montecarlo Cruise, which we found was on of the tours in San Andrés.

In general San Andrés has excellent beaches, beautiful natural places, but the infrastructure for the tourist is very poor. We will not return there. Next time that we want caribeean, we will choose another island.

Room Tip: The best room are the ones with balcony that see to the beach, but I would not recommend any room in...

“Nice Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We went to San Andres for a few days, not booked a hotel. We walked down from the airport and went into the Portobelo Plaza. A nice girl of the reception showed us a room, very nice, the price was ok, so we staid. The beach was just round the corner, the Restaurant excellent. We can recommend this island and the hotel !

I stayed 17 days at the hotel with my wife. It's located at the best beach on the island, the staff is super friendly and the price is amazing. Next year, portobelo again!

“Excelent! I recommend to everyone.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2011 via mobile

I stayed a week at the hotel with my family on vacation. We just have to commend. The hotel, located in a paradise in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, has great facilities. Large, comfortable rooms and new furniture. The staff are extremely friendly and courteous. They were always ready to answer any questions and guide us in the walks along the island. The owner, Mr. Carlos, a Brazilian entrepreneur and adventurer who lives on the island for several years. What a pleasure to have known him, a friend with whom we had the opportunity to talk extensively on various subjects. The breakfast offers good variety, with typical local dishes, fresh fruit, juice etc.. Likewise, the restaurant deserves praise. The food is very tasty. The menu includes seafood, fish and other meats. A delight. Congratulations to the team hotel Porto Bello!

“perfect vacation, best beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

First time we did not spend a vacation at an all-inclusiv-resort and it was great. We had all we need, a nice big room with comfortable beds, air condition, new bathroom, good service and the best beach right in front. Just one point, we missed more english speaking employes at the reception.
Breakfast we had at the Terazza Portobelo - could have been more, but it was good.
We love the Colombian coffee, and there we got the best ! Food in the evening was delicious, too.
The wireless internet at the restaurant was faster than that in the internet cafés, so we enjoyed it, with a beautiful view to Johnny Key & a big coffee.
One day we will be back !
