I believe this is one of the best hotels in San Andrés Island.
After moving around through the whole Decameron Hotels in the Island during my visit, the only one that was "comparable" in quality was Decameron "Marazul". The higher note was for Delfines, based on location and room quality. I´ve been in every class of hotel in San Andrés, and this one is for sure a hidden gem for a family vacation.
In the first floor you will find the standard rooms, good enough if you are travelling with a small party (no more than 4). My kids stayed there, while the adults stayed in the junior suite. The whole hotel circles the kind of small swimming pool.
Note: And if you are a privacy freak, first floor is not for you.
The downsides:
1. If you are looking for a high variety of meals / drinks each day, you won´t find it there. Don´t get me wrong, food quality is good, but you might find that the food menu "cycle" runs every 3 days, I believe.
2. There is a limit of 3 adults (13+ years) per room - never understood or asked why, anyway...but that might be a problem if you have a big family with very different age groups. So the lesson is: ASK before you buy!
3. Sound "insulation". Despite is very well located (30 meter walk to the beach, 30 meter walk to the shopping area, 5 meter walk to transportation services) , there are a couple of disco clubs nearby, so in the night, you might find some troubles trying to sleep. Is not THAT bad, is just that if you want absolute silence, you might have to request a room nearby the beach area.
The good:
1. Good, clean rooms.
2. Good WCs.
3. Air conditioner...that actually works... In the junior suite, you have 2 dedicated air conditioners. In the standard rooms, there is a central system...that also works! ;)
4. Good WCs.
5. Swimming pool is good, and it will let your kids take a rest from the salty water.
6. The hotel is relatively small, so it´s not crowded like Decameron Aquario or Decameron San Luis.
7. Location.
8. Next to the hotel Lord Pierre, where you may buy tourist packages for a very really good price.
9. Good, decent food. Not gourmet. Remember that you CAN go to other Decameron hotels in the island to try other food, but make sure to reserve your spot in the hotel you want to visit.
10. Friendly and FLEXIBLE staff. My flight was at 10pm, and my checkout from the hotel was at 1pm. So I talked with the receptionist and asked if i could stay a bit longer (7pm) so i didn´t have to spend the day wondering with the whole family...they let me and I´m very grateful for that. In any case, ASK before doing that, they might have to "decline" your request based on room´s demand for the day.
Final note: Try the Decameron Club de Playa, in Rocky Kay. Your kids will love the chance to go very further in the sea.
