Providencia is a beautiful, laid-back island with fantastic food, friendly people and brilliant snorkeling. Hotel Sol Caribe was a real disappointment and seriously needs improvement, as it lets down the image of this otherwise lovely island. The hotel claims to back green measures, and be eco friendly but had piles of rubbish left right on the rocky beach. We actually ended up clearing away stray coke cans that had been left to rot there, as we couldn't stand seeing them spoiling an otherwise pretty setting.
The breakfast consists of nasty tinned fruit (why, when you can eat fresh tropical fruit and consume amazing jugos elsewhere on the island?). We actually couldn't stomach such depressingly grim breakfast, so went to the fabulous Art cafe up the road on our remaining days.
The rooms are so overpriced even for a Londoner - and they charge extra for petty things like the security box per night.
The staff were surly and unfriendly - a real let down when everyone else we met on the island were so kind and friendly.
On one good note they arrange good value boat trips, but I really wouldn't stay here - there are many better options - we moved and happily settled into Hotel Sirius after. A million times better food, room, helpful staff and much cheaper.
