I found this to be the perfect base for exploring the culture, restaurants, and nightlife of Cartagena. It is right in the middle of the old part of the city, with rooms looking down onto the narrow, colorful colonial streets.
The rooms are not luxury accommodations but they are clean and reasonably well-appointed: firm bed, working air conditioning, refrigerator (stocked with reasonably priced beverages), and a room safe. A breakfast of fruit and eggs is included, served in a comfortable, open-air dining area. The rooms circle the second floor, looking down on a courtyard restaurant below.
Half of the rooms have large, walk-through windows opening to balconies overlooking the street. They are gorgeous but Cartagena is a busy town and it's noisy. I switched the second night to a room with no windows which was much quieter, though obviously giving up the view.
Hot water was iffy. The electric heater above the shower nozzle (with wires hanging out) worked in one of the rooms' shower. The shower also leaked profusely onto the bathroom floor. Hot showers are not so critical given the climate. The air conditioning did work well.
The staff is friendly. When I called the day before arrival to confirm my reservation they had lost it. Since the hotel was not full this was not a problem. It's a small hotel so you quickly get to know everyone. I recommend it unless you require modern fixtures and more luxuries, in case you will have to spend quite a bit more in Cartagena I suspect.
