Stayed at the Intercon Century City for 6 nights for a training course/ conference. It is conveniently located wrt the airport (about 20 mins), but is ~20-30 mins from the city center (depending on traffic) - hence I would recommend it only for people who intend to spend most of their time at the hotel or traveling to places near Chengdu rather than to within the city itself.
The rooms are nice - large, well furninshed bed rooms and bathrooms. Comparable on a global level - no complaints there.
However, I stayed there during November, which apparently is "winter" time, so the hotel shuts off (so we were told) the central air conditioning. It was ~18 degrees outside, but the temperature in my 22nd floor room was >25... so oppressively hot that I had to change my room to a lower floor. That one (on the 7th floor) was more comfortable at ~22 degrees.
Didn't try the breakfast buffet any of the days... the lunch buffet had a VAST spread - cuisines ranging from western to Thai to Indian to Sichuan, etc. However, the quality of food was average at the best, nothing to write home about. Had a couple of dinners at the Chinese restaurant... it's quite nice,if you are a fan of Sichuan cuisine (though there are several local joints in the city that are far better).
The staff was friendly and helpful... not all could speak English, but I got by. On the day of my departure, decided to use a regular cab... there was no one around to help me communicate with the cab driver or help ensure he switched on the meter. I got by somehow... but wouldn't have expected a lack of this service from a 5 star hotel.
Room Tip: Lower floor rooms are cooler during winter months
