Spent a couple of nights in Chengdu during the golden week national holiday in China. Chengdu shopping streets had the most people concentrated in a couple of streets that we had ever seen and so did the giant budda in Leshan! So to be staying away from the crowds was not a bad thing.
The room was pretty basic but clean and overlooking a courtyard. We opened the windows - big mistake as we foprgot to close them at dusk and it let mosquitoes in and the Chengdu mozzies are very smart and did not want to get caught. Fortunately the hotel provided a plug inn mosquito repellant.
There was a slight leak under the basin which we reported and this was fixed. They had said we could move rooms if there was a problem.
Reception staff spoke barely any english so sorting out paying for our laundry by card and not cash caused a major discusson as we had not paid a deposit. However this was all sorted out quickly. They have really good sweets and candy on the reception desk! There are no money changing facilities in the hotel but there is a Bank of China across the road.
The Sunjoy Inn was going through major rennovation in the lobby and shoping arcade (not yet opened) and it was very noisy and suty and walking to the lift was a bit of a mission, climbing over bits of wood and up a ramp. The lift call button was below a lot of electric wires they were working on and on our second day the lift only left from the first floor so we had to climb up a flight of stairs as well. It also meant when we checked out, we had to carry our suitcases down the stairs and across all the rubble.
There was free broadband in the room and one english channel on the tv.
Breakfast was nothing special, eggs, cake and watermelon for the western palate.
We ate at a really good Indian restuarant called Tandoor behind the hotel and there are a few other restautrants around the hotel with english menus. we could not find the Starbucks a previous reviewer had mentioned but Chengdu has some excellent tea houses especially on the lake in Remnin Park and many other coffee chains.

The hotel was booked for me by my Chinese hosts and a very good choice it was. My room was on an upper floor and very quiet. Plenty of room, well furnished, great bathroom, hi speed internet connection, quiet airco, and to top it a very cosy china teaset, non of this plastic stuff, and a nice big waterfountain with hot and cold bottled water. I slept in a great big bed that was maybe hard (as another reviewer said) but I like it that way. I was there on business and stayed 12 nights. Not one thing to complain about. Staff overly helpful and nice. Breakfast included. The hotel is located close to Embassy Row and there is a Starbuck across the street if you get tired of Chinese breakfasts. As I didn't pay for the room I don't know what my hosts paid, but on the door it said RMB 450 (aprox. 45 Euro/$ 60). The more expensive hotels in the same street (Kempinski) couldn't have been a better experience at a fraction of the price.

This was a very nice hotel. We stayed at the "executive" room because the only standard room available was a ground floor one and the window actually looked out into the lobby! Yes, if you open your curtains people in the lobby can look into your room. Strange. So I recommend avoiding those types of rooms.

Otherwise, our room was clean, everything worked as expected, and they even provide a small tank of bottled water for you. Very convenient. The location was very convenient. The staff was friendly and the price was very reasonable.

I am an American with a Chinese wife and we stayed at the Sunjoy Inn April 17 & 18. We made a phone reservation from within China and spoke to "Jason". He said all that was available was a "Business" (two bed) room, which we accepted because of our need to be near the US Consulate in Chengdu. When we arrived Jason welcomed us, gave us two free breakfast coupons and the bellboy took our luggage to a sixth floor room with a Queen bed, not two singles. The room was clean and quiet at night, with excellent housekeeping. Older style furniture and a typical China bed mattress that was "FIRM", as expected. If you want Serta comfort don't stay here. Their breakfast buffet has more Chinese than Western food (as we expected), but satisfied me. They recommended "Zoe's BBQ" a few doors away to me for dinner and it was wonderful, with a good Western dinner and breakfast menu and cordial staff. The staff at Sunjoy spoke some English and went out of their way to be helpful. When housekeeping cleaned our room they left two more free breakfast coupons for us for the next day. I never saw a hotel staff with so many smiles until we stayed at the Sunjoy Inn.
