“Spa services made this hotel stay worthwhile”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

I was not expecting to spend the night in Chengdu but a mix up in planes resulted in me needing to stay the night near the airport. Having experienced the need to have the Chinese charters written out to get to the hotel (and even then this does not always help but always necessary since very few taxi drivers speak English - it isChina after all), so they had the hotel car at the airport to greet me. Check- in was a breeze and gave me a room on the non-smoking floor.

For once, a hotel where the sheets and towels did not reek of smoke in the non-smoking rooms. Was staying on the executive floor so went up to have a drink of water and the place was empty - it was 10pm but it was a surprise for a Saturday night for the place to be empty.

Thoughts put going for a swim sowentand checked the pool - great pools and jacuzzis. Asked about booking a massage for the next day and was told they could give me one then and there. I had spent five hpursat the Forbidden City beofregetting on the flight. The masseuse was excellent. She got the knots out and I slept a dream.

The rom had a window that opened and anawesomeshower with so many different shower heads and great toiletries. Not much bench space but I was only there one night and tea and coffee making facilities. Only two small bottles of water.

The lounge had a nice spread for breakfast.

Check-out took a while but I was not in a hurry.

The hotel car was not available to take me to the airport but the concierge made sure the taxi ran the meter and gave mean indication of the approximate fare to expect.

And oh a bizarre item - I use the hotel laundry bags for my dirty washing but this hotel asked for their bagbackatcheck-in. Fortunately it was in my carry-on luggage so could easily retrieve it. Never had that happen before (being asked for the laundry bag). Of course it meant that dirty laundry was not self-contained. As i said, somewhat strange.

The WiFi worked very well AT&T is hotel. I never lost the connection. Adored during this stay in China.

If I needed to stay the night near Chengdu airport again would stay here.

Room Tip: Request anon-smoking room.they are on a non-smoking floor and they really donor smell of stale cigar...

“Very Nice Hotel in the Capital of Sichuan Province, China”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

We stayed for two nights at this high rise hotel in Chengdu, China. The room was attractive and clean, and the food was good. I would recommend it to other travelers going to Chengdu. It's not too far from attractions such as the Panda Breeding Research Centre (about a 20 minute drive).

“Nearly, but not quite”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Stayed here for a couple of nights. It's in a good location (although surrounded by main roads), and the rooms were fine, but the service isn't quite there yet. Not having milk available next to the cereals at breakfast. Not bringing a second tonic water or ice for a G&T top-up. Nothing major, but just lots of little things. Also, no wifi apart from in the hotel lobby. Only a plug in cable...and internet access which you have to pay for by the minute! Bit stingy really.

“Good experience, great location, best restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

Stayed for 3 nights on business trip. Rooms immaculately clean, friendly, efficient staff. Paulaner Restaurant on ground floor with nice beer garden and best menu in China if you like German cuisine and beer. Nice continental Restaurant (The Book Store) about 5 minutes walk from hotel.

Room Tip: Executive floors (16 and 17)

“Good place, a little outside of the city, but good for the airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2011

Good hotel. Rooms are quite large, bathroom has shower and bathtub. Everything was clean. Bed are comfortable. Electric plugs are everywhere you need them including next to the bed.
Breakfast was good, although the service somewhat slow, same goes for the Paulaner.
TV had all the typical channels with CNN, BBC, DW (I think), Net Geo etc etc.
Internet was fast, but not free as long as you do not join some for of Kempinksi Club (which is free)
I tried many hotels in Chengdu, the Kempinski is the best one.
