My wife and I stayed at the Jin Jiang Hotel two separate times in September, 2007. This is a VERY large, modern and well kept hotel complex in central Chengdu; a city that turned out to be one of our favorite in China (and yes, there are giant pandas nearby). There are two separate large buildings. Both seem to have similar rooms, but the annex requires a walk of a couple hundred meters to reach the dining room in the main building. That large, but very inviting restaurant served an excellent breakfast, but we did not try if for lunch or dinner. The lobby and shopping area of the main building were very spiffy, with polished marble and mirrors everywhere. The annex was just fine, but not nearly as glamorous.
Both of our rooms were a lot better than average for non-tourist center China – very clean, comfortable and quiet. I especially liked the free high-speed Internet connection in the rooms. The hotel seemed to attract both upper-end tour groups and rich Chinese (many Ferraris, Lamborghinis and fancy BMWs in the parking lot). I think in general you are better off in the main building, but don’t expect great views anywhere (unless you are turned on by busy streets). There may be better hotels in Chengdu, but this one is a pretty safe bet that we were happy with.
