Can't add much to the prior reviews other than to endorse the positive ones and say that the service is good, especially at breakfast and at the bellstand where a private car was arranged for us, taxis were called and so on. The young men there were very helpful. Chengdu is great and we loved the large Panda waterfall fountain at the entrance. The location is good and if you're a Mao fan, it's just a short walk to the square to get your picture taken with the great helmsman who was "80% right and 20% wrong." Btw, that's a government line, not mine, I'd reverse the numbers. The hotel lobby has that large column, massive, spacious feel of Soviet design origin but I think this hotel was built long after the Soviet advisers bugged out of the country. All in all, we'd stay here again.

Chengdu is a very lovely city. I can recommend staying at Chengdu and at the Yinhe as it is in a great location for shopping and western type food outlets. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff very obliging. Unfortunately not a lot speak english. There is plenty of food at breakfast with the attentive staff whisking away any used plates.

There are a number of MacDonalds across the street and a Starbucks to the left of the hotel. We had a nice experience at the Pizza Hut which is across the street and left 3 blocks , on a corner. The supervisor saw us coming, opened the door, found us stools to wait on as it was very busy. Even though we were told there was a 20 min wait she came and got us after 5 min and showed us to a table. No english was spoken by her but she used plenty of sign language. A young waitress who did speak english was found and told to look after us. She enjoyed practising her english, we enjoyed a pizza after days of chinese food at lunchs and dinners. There is also plenty of shopping in the streets behind the hotel and even though it was late at night we felt in no danger at all even though I did not see one western face.

We were not going to visit Chengdu, but changed plans during our trip. Our Tour Manager arranged this hotel for my family at no additional cost. The rooms were small and a little dated, but the hotel was in a great location, the staff was nice and the breakfast was wonderful. After several days in the country side of China, the family was happy to see the Starbucks and ofther Western things. There is a wonderful shopping area near the hotel and a great park with dancing fountains in front of the Town Hall. I would go back to this hotel for the location and the breakfast, but I would asked for an updated room.

We stayed for two nights during our 24day tour of China with CTS - good location - good food - centrally located - friendly and helpful staff.
