I had one of the apartment rooms for aound GBP40 a night and the room and facilitites were very good. Hotel is good, restaurants looked nice but didn't use and the fitness facilities are absolutely fantastic at this price. One thing I would say is if you like a good atmospheric hotel bar then this is not the place, the bar was really really quiet which is a shame for such a big hotel.

Location is good, seems a little out of the way but when you get your bearings it's a good location. Clse to the sea, close to bar street and the shopping area. This is a good hotel.

I selected a promo room off the net for rmb400 and expected something reasonable. In China a promo rate at this price is usually 4-star. The room in Block B I was given was horrific- tiny, little single bed,dirty, no light- like the kind of room you want to top yourself in. Rmb 400? Surely some kind of joke? I assume they were full and were using the rooms the staff sleep in. I feel sorry for the staff. I couldn't possibly stay in that room and was finally given the only other room they had- windowless, but a step up on what I was initially given. Even the second room was a definite 2-star, worth absolutely no more than rmb200 per night.
The second night I was moved to a better room in Building C, but only if I agreed to an extra charge of Rmb450 as well as an extra charge for the originally free breakfast in Building A.
Positives:
1. Swimming pool is 25 metres long and very clean. I had it to myself at 11am in the morning. The staff said it is used more 1pm-4pm.
2. Breakfast in Building A. Worth the extra charge, but you need to get there before 8.30am, otherwise the stuff that has 4-star appeal such as the anti-pasto and the fruit danishes might be gone.

The location of the hotel is great. It is within walking distance to the ocean and about 25 min walk to the Olympic park. The hotel has 3 separate buildings... depending on the type of room you reserved. The main building was very impressive but I stayed in the "apartment styled" building on the side. The rooms were super clean, buffet breakfast was delicious, and the service was great. The bellboys and other staff were very friendly and helpful (one bellboy even tried to give up his seat for me on a local bus when he recognized me). The only thing that I found awkward was the washroom.....the toilet and walk-in shower was in an area without a door... so the area is only blocked by the sink/mirror. The walk-in shower was very big but completely see through. So basically as long as you stand on the side of the sink/mirror you can look directly into the shower/toilet area. Nonetheless, I loved the hotel and definitely woudl stay there again!

The hotel has several buildings so be aware. Not all of them have the same standard.
We stayed in the tall new building which had just been opened. Everything looked really impressive and the rooms were also in good shape and of good size. Breakfast was of the better I have tasted in China.

On the negative side you could hear most everything your neighbour was doing as there was a definate lack of soundproofness.
