When you check in this hotel you do not expect being right above one of the hottest clubs in town. We had fun in the club with karaoké and dj acts and then go to sleep in a very calm room upstairs.

Staff was very friendly, decent size pool for a tier II city hotel, chinese food from the palace was not bad (I had some green veggie stir fried, tofu and dumplings). The only downside was the wet stinky smell in the bathroom. Otherwise just like a normal shanri-la. the location must be good, as there is a big LV store right across the street. but i didn't want to wander around in a city where a kid can have his hands chopped off and bled to death as a result of a basketball fight...

I often travel to Changchun for Business. From an international point of view the hotel may not be a 5 star hotel and not even at the height of other Shangri las, but in Changchun it is the best option in terms of customer service. The hotel is centrally located. The rooms are comfortable and practical. Bathrooms have a good size and renewed. As a critic the position of shower nozzle was a little low for me so I needed to bend a little in order to wash my head (I think it is at 1.7 mts height) but pressure was very good.
Check in and check out were fast.
At breakfast in China normally I care about availability of food used to eat (western breakfast), service and availability of tables and concerning these three issues they were very good the two days of my stay.
To make it simple for a Changchun visitor I would recommend two hotels one is definitely the Shangri la with the best customer service in Changchun and downtown located and the other is the New Century with better rooms.

A few months ago I stayed in this hotel when it was under refurbishment and complained that it was a smokers paradise. The refurbishment is complete and I am delighted to report that the cafe/breakfast room is now non-smoking and a much more plesent environment. Nevertheless, the hotel could still look after non smokers better by not shoving them behind the pillar in the lobby bar where they cannot see the stage. There is now a lovely beer garden open where nightly BBQ takes palace but I guess this is a summer location. I stayed in a suite in the horizon floor. It was delightful. As were all the staff.
