“Very bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

No China feeling at all. This hotel might have 4 stars 10 years ago, but they haven’t done anything about maintenance since that time. The bathroom is dirty and the staff cares only about the money they can get for diner, lunch or souvenirs in their store. Their pride- fountain in the backyard is not visible because of the sweaty windows. The food in the restaurant is supposed to be European but has no taste. The wine is good. In the night-time the hotel is used by some ladies as a ‘meeting place” with the customers.

“Hotel is getting Tired”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

This was the third stay at Bamboo Grove in 4 years.
I was originally put on 5th floor - AC didn't work well and just not a nice room.
I changed to Emerald Club - 3rd floor. You get some amenities such as free drinks 6-8pm. Newspaper, Free Internet, PC available and printer for free use and a limited food at night ( appetizers) and limited breakfast in morning. It is a little more expensive but worth the difference if you are staying here.

I ate the breakfast at both Emerald Club and main dining room. The quality of food was not very good. The hotel is used by tour groups so they skimp on quality. I was here in March and Oct in past and no tour groups - that could be the difference.

Rooms are okay - the whole hotel could use a good updating and cleaning.

The exercise room ( if you call it that - Holiday Express/Comfort had more) and sauna were pretty bad. It really needed a cleaning and updating.

The hotel has its spa but beware the massagers - they are out for money. With the tours, it was not so blatant as during the other times.

The bar had the same singers for last 4 years - not bad but again tired.

“Good quality well run hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2010

Rooms ok but not large. Clean and reasonable facilities. fairly good location but not walking distance to centre of town. Has very nice lobbby bar with good entertainment in the evening with a good happy hour. Also a sports bar on the 2nd floor (but was closed last time i was there due to downturn in tourism) Food both Chinese and western is quite good. very good and friendly staff

“Didn't like it.”

Stayed here in October last year as part of a tour from Guilin to Shanghai. This is our fourth trip to China, so have experienced a number of hotels all over the country. This one looks nice when you enter the lobby, but our room had a very bad, stale smell that ruined our time there. We couldn't stand the smell, so had to continuously open our windows to let air in/the smell out. It didn't help much anyway, and since we were on the ground floor, we had close our window at night (also to keep out mosquitos), which made sleeping impossible in the stuffiness. The carpet was stained and dirty and the room was just generally uninviting. We used up a couple of good french perfumes, which we sprayed around the room in the hope of making it smell better, but nothing helped. We only stayed two nights, so decided not to bother asking for another room and figured they probably all smelled the same. We also found the bathroom to be less than clean. Staff were helpful and the breakfast buffet was ok, but not as good as we had elsewhere. Location not great either. I definitely would not stay there again - very disappointing.
