My husband and I visited the Bamboo Grove Hotel as part of out China Highlights Tour with Kuoni for 2 nights in September 2011. Out of all the hotels we stayed at during our 13 night trip to China this was most definitely the worst room. As soon as we opened the door, the room stunk of mustiness and damp. The mustard coloured carpets were disgustingly filthy and had cigarette burns on them (this was on a Non-Smoking Floor!!). A member of our tour couldn't understand why the shower was no dirty after she had washed but soon discovered it was because of the dirt from the carpet sticking to her feet. Our Kuoni Tour Guide offered to get us another room but it seemed pointless when all the other 20 guests on our tour were all experiencing the same problem. We did a small amount of washing and left it in the bathroom to dry but at the end of the 2 day stay it seemed to be wetter than when we had hang it up to dry!! (despite the air con being on 24/7). The bedding and all of our clothes felt damp and we were just glad to leave this hotel. It was a room that I didn't want to be in and just wanted to get out of as quickly as possible. No doubt Kuoni won't be using this for future visits to Suzhou. However Suzhou was a very pretty town, my favourite on the tour.
