“superb service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2007

I was in Zhengzhou a couple of weeks ago for a day trip with two coworkers from HK, we met up at C. Plaza hotel for lunch and had lunch at a surprisingly pleasant restaurant with very good food

when we realized Zhengzhou is a good city from which to visit Shaolin temple & the Longmen grottoes/caves (1 of the 3 best in the country) + the Henan museum (also 1 of the 3 best in the country) I decided to go back

so booked the hotel directly & went back last weekend

the service at the hotel was superb! while past experiences in China /comments even from local PRC friends usually is that China hotels have the hardware (nice hotels esp in Shanghai & BJ) but not the software (staff not well trained), C. Plaza 's service is the best I've ever experienced in China

everything from the concierge & team (Barry & team) that handled the logistics of sightseeing to just the guys working in the lobby, they really bend over backwards to help, i.e. if you ask for directions in the hotel, they'll walk you there, if you ask for a car pick up at the airport, they'll call you back with all the details incl driver's cell # & etc, the hotel drivers were great as well (unlike some issues I had with the hotel drivers in other places, ie too talkative, pushy etc)

the rooms were ok (really nothing to write home about, + the mattress was super hard) and the spa (one for women only one for men only) was overpriced (RMB1,000 for an average quality 80 min massage) but the restaurants were excellent (tried two of them, one of them was so good ate there twice, and a good base for sightseeing

definitely a high 4++

  • Liked — the service
  • Disliked — the overpriced spa + the bed was not v comfortable (a bit on the hard side)

“Surprisingly Pleasant Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2007

I have to say that it was my first trip to Zhengzhou, and I really didn't expect much. I was coming, after all, to meet a pork distribution company. I had some misgivings when I first saw it, too - it was a very wide building, but was only 5 storeys tall, and reminded me of the Communist party guesthouses that were built in the 1970s and 1980s. But the lobby turned out to be nicely decorated, in a modern manner. Upon arrival, I met what must have been the most pleasant and efficient check-in staff in China, and very quickly given a key to a really nice room that was well-sized.

The hotel was fairly lively, and I didn't try any of the restaurants but they looked pretty friendly and convival (and popular), and the indoor pool really was very well run - the hotel also has a decent gym with modern machines.

I also slept like a baby at the hotel, for at least 8-9 hours, when I normally just get 6-7. Very comfortable bed. Overall, I found it to be an excellent experience.

  • Liked — Really nice design, impressive numbers of amenities for the size of the property
  • Disliked — Unfortunately, there isn't much to do immediately outside of the hotel - best off staying inside!

“Good Business Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2007

Stayed on a biz trip. Hotel is quite typical of a 4+/5* hotel. Range of F&B outlets & room amenities are ok too.
Didn't venture around the area, so not sure of what shops they have around.

“Best Hotel in Zhengzhou”

I was very pleased with this hotel. It was more than a five star hotel, it was excellent! The rooms are spotless and very well designed. There is turn down service at night, where they leave a yummy cookie for you to enjoy! The hair dryer in the bathroom dosen't have much power but I wouldn't rate the hotel down for that. My boyfriend sent me flowers and the staff made sure they were in my room. Again, the staff is very eager to please. There was no language barrier. The food in the hotel is excellent with many choices from Western to Brazilian Barbeque. There is an Olympic size pool and the gym is state of the art. I stayed here for 10 days, for work, and loved every minute of it. Watch out for the beggers who hang out on the street near this hotel and the Holiday Inn. I was grabbed by one who wouldn't let go of me, begging for money. The same happened to some of my colleagues. This happens all over China so just be aware. I would stay here again because it was such a nice hotel! Best in Zhengzhou!

“5 star hotel with 6 star staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2004

In the last four years I have stayed at this hotel many times. It is located on the outskirts of the city and shares it's location with the Holiday Inn. The Crowne Plaza is always undergoing some development or redecoration although you would never know as the hotel always ensures that guests are not disturbed. It has an excellent Chinese restaurant, Italian Bistro and a coffee shop which provides a hearty western and Chinese buffet breakfast as well as a themed buffet dinner each evening. The White Horse Bar offers a full range of drinks with nightly entertainment by the resident Philipino duo who try very hard to make everyone happy.

Although I have yet to sample it myself, I am told that the Karioki is also first class.

The rooms are of a typical 5 star standard, spotlessly clean, well furnished and comfortable with everything you would need provided.
The food is of a high standard whether it be Western or Chinese but it is the staff who make the hotel so pleasant to stay in.
Every member of the staff learns of every guest and greets them by name( including the toilet cleaners). Nothing is too much trouble and you are made to feel very special when you stay here.
Either a shuttle bus or limousine are available to take you to the airport which is about 45 minutes away. The only negative is that the weather in the winter can be bad, with fog a constant worry around the airport. Unfortunately if the fog decends ( which it does regularly) you will be stuck in an airport hotel, most of which are truly dire.

My business means that I have to stay in hotels for most of the mid-week period and I rate this as one of the top in China.
