I was at Narada with my family (wife, 3 year old, 3 month old)
As an expat living in China, I had been in this hotel several times when it was owned by Kempinski, as a way to "disconnect" from China.
Premises are still great for kids, especially the sand pool and the two big pool slides (belonging more to an aquatic park than a hotel!). If you go with kids, you will spend half your time there.
Service level is down from what it was with Kempinski. Some of the waiters and waitresses did not understand english at all, and even pointing at the menu they made a lot of mistakes with orders. One of our friends lost the plane because she could not open the door of the room and they had to argue for 45min to get it opened
Room were clean as before, but hotel cleanliness in general is down from Kempinski. As hotel gardens are extensive and the hotel is in a tropical environment, there are animals around (normal in this areas). But in Kempinski, if there was a dead beetle or snail in the path, it disappeared within minutes. With Narada, one of the days there was a dead beetle in the middle of the breakfast buffet, nobody cared to clean it. Not that I care a lot, but would not have happened in Kempinski and some people can care about this details.
We also saw a couple of rats (not mouses...), one at dinner buffet in Paulaner and the other near the pool. Maybe hard to avoid in this environment, but, again, had never seen one with Kempinski.
And some areas of the pool smelled bad because of bad drainage.
Also, the number of foreigners is down a lot, and number of chinese has multiplied. If you want to disconnect from the "hello!", "laowai laowai" or from people touching your children out of curiosity, it's not the place to go anymore.
Restaurants are super overpriced and food is not very good. But with Kempinski it happened the same. As the resort is isolated, you will end up eating there most days, so it's something to consider.
To sum up, it seemed to us that Narada wants to cater more to chinese tourism. Probably a wise choice given the current boom.
Hotel premises are still amazing, but service in general is down from what it was.
Would I go again? With kids and for a good deal (never more than RMB1000/night), I will go again, as they really enjoy the pools, slides and others
By myself or with couple, no way. There are much better places to go
