“Not bad with family”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

I was at Narada with my family (wife, 3 year old, 3 month old)
As an expat living in China, I had been in this hotel several times when it was owned by Kempinski, as a way to "disconnect" from China.

Premises are still great for kids, especially the sand pool and the two big pool slides (belonging more to an aquatic park than a hotel!). If you go with kids, you will spend half your time there.

Service level is down from what it was with Kempinski. Some of the waiters and waitresses did not understand english at all, and even pointing at the menu they made a lot of mistakes with orders. One of our friends lost the plane because she could not open the door of the room and they had to argue for 45min to get it opened

Room were clean as before, but hotel cleanliness in general is down from Kempinski. As hotel gardens are extensive and the hotel is in a tropical environment, there are animals around (normal in this areas). But in Kempinski, if there was a dead beetle or snail in the path, it disappeared within minutes. With Narada, one of the days there was a dead beetle in the middle of the breakfast buffet, nobody cared to clean it. Not that I care a lot, but would not have happened in Kempinski and some people can care about this details.
We also saw a couple of rats (not mouses...), one at dinner buffet in Paulaner and the other near the pool. Maybe hard to avoid in this environment, but, again, had never seen one with Kempinski.
And some areas of the pool smelled bad because of bad drainage.

Also, the number of foreigners is down a lot, and number of chinese has multiplied. If you want to disconnect from the "hello!", "laowai laowai" or from people touching your children out of curiosity, it's not the place to go anymore.

Restaurants are super overpriced and food is not very good. But with Kempinski it happened the same. As the resort is isolated, you will end up eating there most days, so it's something to consider.

To sum up, it seemed to us that Narada wants to cater more to chinese tourism. Probably a wise choice given the current boom.

Hotel premises are still amazing, but service in general is down from what it was.

Would I go again? With kids and for a good deal (never more than RMB1000/night), I will go again, as they really enjoy the pools, slides and others

By myself or with couple, no way. There are much better places to go

Room Tip: Book ahead and not through Narada! We got 40% discount (agoda, expedia...)

“Good piece of land, mediocre service”

This place is in a very secluded area, so getting out of it may be a pain, meaning that you'll most likely be staying at this resort and paying for the very overpriced and bland food. Worst ripoff: the dinner buffet. Just don't bother.

On the other hand, this resort is very unique. The pools are gorgeous, and it feels like a tropical rainforest. The landscaping and plants are beautiful. The beach was a little disappointing- the water wasn't very blue and the sand was coarse compared to the beach we visited at Dadonghai, where we paid significantly less. Mostly, we just stayed in the pools, which were fun.

My main issue was the service. It really wasn't English-friendly, so make sure to stay here only if you know Mandarin Chinese. I am a native Chinese speaker, but was still unimpressed by the service. My American boyfriend found it very hard to get around without me.

We rented a car for the entire day for 300 RMB (a service provided by Narada). It was supposed to take us around Sanya to scenic spots such as End of the Earth and Nanshan Temple. However, our driver told us as soon as we were about a mile away from Narada that these places were closed that day. What I didn't understand was why he didn't tell us this before we paid the 300 and got into the car. This left us with nothing to do. Annoyed, we returned to Narada and asked him to come back at 6:15 to pick us up to go to the airport. At 5:40, he called me, demanding that I come into the car immediately. We were rushed to the airport with only the explanation that we were hurried out so early because the roads were closing due to the storm. However, I know for a fact that the roads were not closing; this made me very angry. His attitude toward us was horrible and it seemed like he just wanted to get rid of us so he could go home.

Narada is a beautiful, unique place- don't get me wrong- but I would go somewhere else just for the service. You pay for five-star service and food here, but you just don't get it.

“Great place for family vacation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2011

The place was great, guestroom's great, beach's great and pool's great! Check-in check-out had been extremely slow, staff & waitors were not smart and considerate enough... Breakfast was just ok, some were overcooked while some were not "fresh" though. Meals not under the package were expensive, but we didn't want to travel under the heat so we had lunch and sometimes dinner at the restaurants inside the hotel. Food in German restaurant was great and we appreciated the beer coupons given to each of the room when we check-in. The room was huge and comfortable, though it would be perfect if the carpet was cleaned every time before the guests move in. Last thing was that it would be great if more shuttle buses going to downtown could be arranged during the day. Overall, the stay was okay~

“Great rooms, pools and beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here, definitely a family place.
Good points:
Beautiful room, friendly and accommodating staff, large buffet breakfast, quiet beach, large grounds, great pools.
Suggestions:
Don't eat the dinner BBQ Buffet, especially not good for vegetarians. It was really bad food (over cooked, underseasoned, pretty much inedible) for really expensive.

We ended up going to town for dinners (recommend dadonghai area) which were much better quality food for a much better price.

“Great hotel for family with kids!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

We stayed at the hotel for 5 days with our 3 years old daughter. My daughter loves the pool so much that we spend almost 80% of our time there. The bath tub on the balcony was fantastic. Food was not bad at all. The spa at the hotel was great but a little pricey for China standard. Service from the staff are ok if you can speak mandarin. (infact, I have to communicate with them with my poor mandarin instead of English!) Apart from that, overall is good!
