Situated in midst of busy Shennan Middle Road, it gives you quick access to all that's important to survive in Shenzhen. The MTR station is a 2 min. walk, at the basement of the mall next door, walk a few blocks behind to scour restos with awesome food, then walk a little further, and you'll find yourself in one of the biggest shopping districts in this side of town.

Compared to hotel rooms in HK, theirs is a roomy surprise! Oriental decor rules here, but nothing too heavy or ornate. Our Superior (Deluxe) room came with free LAN internet, and had a bathtub with complete amenities. The only bad things I found were: The carpet needs some deep cleaning, and the mini bar was located deep inside the built-in counter. You had to CROUCH to get your stuff.

The pleasant surprises came in the details: upon return, there were little origami creations on the bed (one heart-shaped, one crane), and we had 2 bricks of complimentary milk (which tasted a bit like diluted Yakult, yum). To help you sleep better, they offer complimentary PILLOWS. I chose the buckwheat (the smell was very faint already) while my colleague opted for the pillow with lumbar support.

The Western cafe had a decent selection of Asian and Western food,and was pretty good! The staff was very friendly, and in this predominantly-Chinese speaking country, the staff was able to communicate well with us in conversational english.

Lastly, after a long day of walking and shopping, its great to know that there's a foot massage salon located at the ground floor, at the side. You can always call for room service (which we did) Their massage technique wasn't par excellance, but really helped soothe our aching feet and legs. 1 hr = RMB 100 per pax.

The room we had was well equipped (toiletries, dressing gowns, hair dryer, large TV) and had very comfortable beds.
The location was great - near to shops restaurants etc - yet our room had a lovely view over the park.
The staff spoke English to varying degrees - they were very helpful when we encountered a problem with our air tickets and were able to sort it out for us over the phone.
We did not have breakfast in the hotel as there did not seem to be western style food on the menu
Overall, this hotel was very good value for money.

The Shanghai Hotel is less than 5 mins to Huang Qua Lu MTR and the Shenzhen metro is incredibly cheap and efficient and gets you anywhere quickly. It's about 5 or 6 stations from Lo Huo (the HK border point).

Nothing actually wrong with the hotel. Impressive facade, staff were helpful and spoke English. Had to give a 200 Yuan cash deposit on check-in. They gave a receipt and gave it back to us promptly on check-out.

The corridors are very worn, ripped wallpaper and badly stained carpets but once past that the room itself was clean. Beds were OK without being super comfy, lots of outside noise even though we were on the 9th floor.

Bathroom was clean with basics provided. I thought breakfast was included in the price but reception told us it was not. There is a buffet breakfast available for 39 Yuan but I didn't try it.

Probably wouldn't stay here again as most of the things I would visit Shenzhen for, spas, are more near the Luo Hu area but if you are going to other attractions then you could do a lot worse than stay here especially for the price.

My husband and I didn't plan to visit China, but during our Honk Kong vacation we had got an idea, that it could be interesting experience. So we checked the Chinese hotel rates, and was surprised. We payed 80 CAD for superior room and got the best one with almost 180°panoramic view.
Everything was excellent.
